Savage for a build?

Heck yes, $275 is a good price. Centerfire rifles are not as popular in my state with hunting regs so $400 is the best I've been able to score a donor gun. I think $275 is a good price anywhere!

Any three digit is a long action, so you can do any long action round you can swap bolt heads for. On the long end I would say the 338 Edge is the limit, you can't make it work as a repeater without some extreme metalworking. Anything shorter OAL with a mag bolt face will work.

Man, I wish I could find these $250 donor guns. I searched for 2 months and the best I could do around here is $399, and I had to drive two hours for that. But rifles aren't as popular here.

If you buy new, sell everything except the action.....stock, barrel, scope and rings if you buy a package rifle. Your actual cost of the new action will in the $225-$300 range.

I got $100 for unfired barrel I took off my last Savage build.

300 Winchester Magnum

Savage 116 action - $250

28" Criterion barrel with muzzle break. 1-10" - $575

HS Precision M24 stock. Skim bedded with Devcon 2 part epoxy - $300

Timney trigger - $95

Pacific Tool and Gauge DBM bottom metal. - $110

I put the Sunrise Bronze Duracoat on the barrel and action myself. I had never done it before and I was a little nervous about it but it went on smooth and easy. I only got one small blemish where the duracoat was a little too thick and made a small run. The bolt, bolt handle, recoil lug and barrel nut is duracoat flat black.

Good job on that build Desert Bull ! Once you start using the Duracoat you will find it very easy. I just bead blast then use the Preval sprayer from Home Depot/Lowes ($5 and disposable if you don't feel like cleaning it). Wear gloves and use carb cleaner to clean up. Duracoat is cheapest from Midway otherwise you get killed on shipping charges as it's hazmat or something.

Also, if you have the bolt fluted notice how it is indexed of the pin hole at the front of the bolt. That is great work from Paul at Pro Precision Rifles(Bolt Fluter on Accurate Shooter forum)
