I've been helping a friend reload for his Sako M995 and its just not doing very well. I believe part of it is the funky angled dove tail mounting system for the optics. Does anyone know of a smith that does good work on Sako's. Looking to get the top milled for a picatiny rail to delete the Sako mounting system as well as spin on a new barrel.

Not sure of a Smith but, the mounting system is rock solid if mounted correctly. I have one in .300 win mag and my zero hasn't moved in over 10 years.

But, SAKO dovetails are some of the best. Tapered, to counter recoil movement.

I, too, have a SAKO M995 in .300 WM. As @Jester560 noted, the Optilock base and scope rings are as solid as they come.
Any resident or site sponsor gunsmith here should be able to do it for you. For starters ...

@shortgrass beat me to it, Recknagel mounts work fine, but I went back to the Leupold ring mounts due to better mounting height, haven't had any issues with the Leupold ring mounts on a 7-08.
