Reloading equipment list to begin reloading

I will be loading less than probably 100 rounds a year on average so I do not feel a $350+ Co-ax press makes sense, nor a progressive. But I respect that input.

I will be getting a good caliper for sure!

Any other input would be greatly appreciated.

You mentioned you're picking up calipers, but I'd also recommend a set of comparators for measuring bullet ojive as well as head space. I use the hornady set with good results.

I started with a RCBS Jr press in 1966, got another in 1971, then I traded and bought 2 Rock Chuckers.

I have the oldies that are solid iron and none of the newer revised/redesigned ones.

All of them are still working great today. I can get consistent bullet runout of less than 0.002" with most running 0.001" to zero runout....consistently.

Here is a link to some good used ones that should serve you well.

I think for 100 rounds a year all this equipment is an unnecessary expense?
5 boxes? Just buy factory..It's not worth the time and effort.

Very True!
@BoomFlop
Trust me....if you purchase all this equipment you'd almost HAVE TO shoot a lot more than 100 rounds per year. You'd have to "test" all the ammo you crank out and inevitably the reloading/shooting/precision bug will bite you! ;)

Repeating some things already listed (maybe all?), but I see:

Required:
calipers
headspace measurement gauges
OAL gauge with modified case for each of your calibers
bullet comparator kit
mallet-style bullet puller

Some things to think about in near-term:
consider 3-die sets, instead of 2-die sets
a stand-alone de-priming die
20-count and 50-count plastic cases by caliber to hold your beautiful new rounds
chronograph for testing your beautiful new rounds
brass cleaner (e.g., tumbler and steel media)

Some things to think about in longer-term (refinements, when you catch the fever):
a trimming lathe (e.g. Forster's)
3-in-1 mouth cutter by caliber for your lathe
neck reaming die by caliber (fits in that same lathe)
neck turning rig
neck graphiting setup (just bore brush with graphite, or fancier)
gauge pin set for testing neck tension
an annealing rig (which depends how much want to spend)
atmosphere measuring equipment (Kestral)
ballistic app to model flight (taking info from your chronograph and Kestral)

I'm sure there's more. Never ending, really. And you'll shoot more than 100 round just refining your first load. Enjoy!

Hello all,

I am looking at starting to reload, and have been doing a bunch of research and have put together the list below. I can get RCBS at a great deal, so unless something is much better I would prefer to use RCBS as much as possible. I know I will need to buy multiple reloading manuals, bullets, powders and primers. What are your thoughts? What don't I need and what am I missing to get started?

You are fine. Start out simple before you invest tons of money on a hobby you might not like. There should be super deals out there.

Enjoy!!
