Reloading 243

I like SW4350, my LGS has lots of it. I use SW4350 with 87 VMax's & 105 match bullets. Data in manuals for IMR & H4350, SW4350 is a bit slower.

Just finished my .243 AR 10 load this weekend. 75 hht at 3622fps with 5 sd.
I used staball 6.5 which seems to be very good with heavier 6mm stuff.

I haven't got a bullet I can't get to produce great speed and accuracy with that powder. I've tried 85gr seirra, 85 interbond, 87vmax, 90gr nosler 95sst. 70gr hh. All seemed good with staball 6.5

Since the early 1970s I have use IMR 4350 and H 4350 with 85 grain Sierra GK BTHP for antelope, whitetail, and mulies. For coyotes I used same load behind the 87 grain Hornady BTHP. It's too explosive even for antelope.
During the 4350 drought I used a near max load of H414 (Win 760) with very good results.
These all worked well in multiple Remingtons, multiple Savages, a Ruger #1, and my Kimber Montana which I love to carry in the mountains of Colorado! As I recall all shot under an inch and some clustered.

I use imr4350 and the hornady or Speer 100 grain btsp along with the 105 amax out of a ruger mkii and a savage I have.

One of my good friends is wanting to load for his sons 243 using Sierra game king 85 gr what are the best powders for this type of load
IMR 4064 is lights out in my Remington 700. I shoot 38 grains, but definitely work up to that as I load the same round, with the same bullet you're using for several rifles of friends, and not everything will take 38 grains. I can generally get 37 in almost all of them, but one rifle in particular won't even take that. Super accurate and that bullet is a killer of whitetail. I cannot remember a single animal getting out of sight. Killed a 170 pounds plus, 168" Kansas buck at 200 yards that staggered maybe ten steps and fell over dead.

85g Speer btsp with R#19 & IMR 4831, Win brass is all over 3400 fps in a 26" barrel. The 85g Speer btsp is a deer bullet, not a varmint bullet with a pretty good BC. HV100 would be my second choice with speed and accuracy. Varget = IMR 4064 worked extremely well, but 200 fps slower than the above loads. IMR and H4350s worked very well. H and IMR 4895 are stellar, just not the speed of 19, IMR 4831, and HV100.

You rarely ever hear it mentioned, but the Barnes 80g TTSX is one heck of a deer and hog bullet and HV100 gives blistering speed with accuracy jumping .050 from the lands.

I got better penetration with the 85g Speer vs either of the Sierra 85's.
Yes^^^^. The Speer 85gr was basically designed to give owners of old 244 Rems with 1/12 twists a suitable deer bullet that would stabilize in those rifles. I've used these for many years, and in my experience, they are better performers in that role than other brands of that weight that tend to be on the varmint side. They are great for low recoil loads for smaller shooters.

I used H414 for my accuracy loads out of the 243 win. But it is temp sensitive so use caution.

My top powder for accuracy and speed with that bullet was with Hybrid 100v, and I will add that the 85gr BTHP Sierra GK is an excellent bullet for deer IME.
I used h 100v when it first came out and switched to RamShot Hunter. StaBall 6.5 is also a good powder. for 80 - 100 grains H 100v would cause flattened primers to match the fps of these other two. I do have 26 inch barrels though.
