Hi everyone , Not much info yet on this powder for this cal. Need help on a starting load for a 284.cal. Gun is a savage 284. 26" inch stainless Cretin match barrel 1and9 twist. Winchester one once fired brass, Win large rifle primers and a 165 grain boat tail bullet. So far i will work up from 53.00 grains of powder and go from their. Still haven't chosen a bullet brand need it to perform for target shooting, any info would be a big help . Thanks

Here is something on the 284

.284 Win Tactical Hunter

My 284 is long throated so I can shoot the 180gr VLD bullets if I want. I would start maybe 49/50gr work up 1/2gr and chronograph loads. In my 284 53gr/R-17 with 160gr AB @ 3048fps and I finally dropped it back 1/2 gr @ 2983fps. I used new win cases and mine liked real light neck tension.

Here is another 284 Record-Setting .284 Win F-Classer

I'm using rl17 in my 270 win with 130's. My brother has used it in his 300 win. It is essentially double based 4350 and you can use that data if you drop the full 10%. It will usually land within a grain at the top.

I have used RL17 in my 284 with 140&160 gr bullets, I have a 11" twist in mine to shoot the lighter bullets.....that said I never for the accuracy is was looking for.

I have had much better luck with VV N160 with 140gr bullets.

I could look up what my loads I tried if you need me too but I remember taking them from the link already posted.
