I been using RL-17 for few years probably from the time it was introduced. One thing I noticed is the chunks left by it in the barrel every time its fired, usually I run patch through every 3 - 5 shots. Is this normal for RE-17 or I have some bad lot?

Thanx

What cartridge? I just found a good load for my 270 with RL 17. I plan to do some shooting this weekend. I'll keep an eye out on the fouling.

I use it in 223, 270 and 308... It shoots great I just don't like chunks seating in the barrel, I never tried to see if it will effect my accuracy by leaving them to accumulate... they can be removed easily with a patch... almost looks like powder didn't burn completely, sort of granules...

I use it in 30-06 and 375 Ruger and thought it was very clean burning. Maybe it was the 3 groove barrel on the 375 and the 30-06 Steyr never did foul much.

goose, what load did you find for your 270? I'm thinking it might work well in the 270.

Using RL-17 in a 308 WIN with a 208Amax @2620 I have not seen a problem with fouling and we are shooting 100rds before cleaning the barrel. The gun is shooting sub MOA out to 1000yrds.

I did some shooting today, shot about 5 rounds and checked the bore after, mine was very clean. I'm shooting 54 grains and a sierra 130gr boat tail. I shot a 6" group at 622yards, which I was happy with. I was however having quite a bit of SD and ES. My first shot was 2917, had a couple in the 2940's a 2950, 2960 and 3000. The first 4 were shot about 5 min apart and the last two back to back.

I read on other forum, 6mmbr I think, the complain was about fouling with RE-17, I just can't find it right now, but guys there were saying they got a lot which was fouling...

By the way in 270 I used 52.5 grains of RE-17 and it grouped nicely 0.4 - 0.5 MOA before I messed up my barrel when jig got stuck in it while I was cleaning at the range, that riffle never shot good after it, I had to hammer jig out  so I never finished my load development for 270... but in 308 I use 47 grains of RE-17 and 155 NCC groups well with 0.3 - 0.4 MOA

With both my 6.5-284s it will foul with anything over 50 grains with a 139-140 grain bullet. with under 50 it will look perfect after 20+ rounds. I keep getting consistent rises in velocity up to 52 grains also good groups, in the 1/2 inch range and 8-12FPS max deviation. also I am getting unreal velocities with 50.5+. I stopped when I saw 3230. I knew pressure had to be well beyond the limit.
