I have a Rem 700 SA I'm about to built on and was wondering if sombody could tell me what these extra screws are

the side of the action in the rear is drilled and tapped for two 6-48 screws , they are parallel with the bolt and the same spacing as the rear scope mount holes. It looks like sombody drilled and tapped for a rear scope mount
90 deg to the left.
the sieral number on this action is A6458723 if that helps anybody.

Remington used to tap thier older actions for a rear peep target sight exactly in the place you describe.

Yup, What crane said.

The old 721s amd 722s had 'em also.

Redfield made a sweet peep sight that worked great. Was used for woodchucks back in the day. (50s) I think I have it in a bin somewhere.

The peep wasn't for squat for dangerous game like the PA Whitetail /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Open sights all the way for those long 75yd shots /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
