Planning a winter project AR10 need some help

Im planning on building an AR10 this winter. Looking for some suggestions on caliber and barrel lengths. Was thinking about maybe a 308, 7mm-08, 243 something i can find ammo locally for then reload for later. Also any tips on barrel brands would be great.

Get a 3r or 5r rifling with +2 on gas & use high pressure bolt even for 308 + tungsten in buffer. That should help in loading hotter ammo and save on brass down the road. AR10 Like to base everything off LC brass way tougher than commercial brass

Thinking 308 or 6.5 creed. Although have heard alot about the 6mm creed as well. Admittedly I dont know alot about either of the creed rounds. Only reason im thinking 308 is because i already load for my bolt guns and ammo availability.

The 7/08 is a real winner. If you like 6.5 I would recommend the 260 Rem
(A 308 necked down to 6.5) Plenty of good brass (Even Lapua makes it)
and the 260 Rem ammo is very common.

It is the ballistic equal of the Creedmoor Unless you AI it then it has an edge.

Hmmm 260 wiuld be a good one. I have a ton of 308 brass that could be resized same with the 7mm-08. I hate trying to decide on a new caliber lol

Well build 2 guns

I just built a 6.5 Creed that shoots lights out. Used JP barrel with +2 gas and matching bolt. Low mass BCG , JP silent capture buffer and a JP adjustable block. I used the AP upper, lower and forearm. U have to decide your own caliber but won't go back when you've tried JP

I have a jp gas block on my current ar and plan on getting a captured buffer for it too. I also plan on buying the aero m5 builders set, ill have to check out the jp barrels as well. May have to go 6.5. Might get my daughter a 6.5 bolt gun as well

I would suggest the mega machine billet upper and lower set. While Aero is good the machining fit and finish of mega is a notch above.

If you plan to shoot heavy bullets with slow powders as well as lighter with faster I highly highly recommend a adj gas block.
