Well. the rifle is at the gunsmith and he's putting on a new Hart 1 in 12" twist 26" heavy barret on a Remington VSL. Anyone have any load data for a 40 grain bullet that they would like to share? Also, what kind of safe velocity have you been able to achieve?
Would like to be able to get around 3900 FPS but don't know if that is a good number.

I put one together for my father-in-law with a 24" douglas 1-10 twist , I'm not certain what the load was but R-7 gave the best velocity and accuracy with the 40gr V-max and I remember that 4000fps was not hard to reach , I believe that the accurate load was around 27grs. This barrel was fire lapped to try to smooth it out. After several hundred rounds it was rechambered to 22BR and shot 55gr V-maxes.
