Hi, I have a good hunting load worked up for my RUM using a 200gr accubond and h1000 powder. however right now iam trying to find a load using a cheaper bullet - the 50 cents per bullet plus the cost of powder and primer is a bit much for punching paper. i would like to keep using the same powder to keep things easy but i just need a 180gr or 200gr bullet that will work for punching paper and whacking some pdogs, and i need one that cost less than an accubond, preferably way less!
thanks for your help!

I'm shooting the 200 gr Accubond and the 200 gr SMK over the same charge of Re-22. In my 300 win. mag they have the same point of impact and fly the same out to 700 or so.

Try the ballistic tip.

It should shoot the same an will expand on lite targets.

Sierra match king would be good but the cost might be to high.

Hope this helps

I'd try the Sierra Matchking, they're about the cheapest match bullet around. My ballistics program lists the B.C for the 180gr SMK as..
.475 @ 2800fps
.496 @ 2200fps
.494 @ 0fps

200gr as..
.565 @ 2100fps
.560 @ 1600fps

220gr as..
.629 @ 2100fps
.624 @ 1700fps
.608 @ 0fps

Lapua scenars are good target bullets and have great B.Cs for thier weight (0.547 @ 0fps for the 185gr) but they usally sell for $5-10 more than the sierras.

[Edit]
J E, How much do the ballistic tips sell for over there? here they are $30/50 with SMKs $40-45/100

WOW"
Must be the boat ride

They are $12,49 for 50 hear.

Berger Match VLDs ar $28,99 for 100.

Sierra Match Kings are $28,99 per 100.

I though we had it bad.

Wish I could help /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

IMac,

Go with the 220 SMK, its great and only about $.26 per bullet. I get 100 pks for 26 bucks. It shoots very well out of my stock remmy over 91grs of H-100. Have shot some sub 1/2" groups with this load at 3.75 OAL. Good luck, and have fun!!

IMac, 200SMK will be almost the same as 200 accubond. I use the AB for hunting and the SMK for practice. It saves a couple of bucks

From Midway,
Remington Core-Lokt Bullets 30 Caliber (308 Diameter) 180 Grain Pointed Soft Point Box of 500
Product #: 874989
Status: Available
Our Price: $62.99
These are what I use all the time, in a .308, a short-mag, and in a RUM. They are inexpensive, and entirely suitable to 99% of the shooting I'm likely to do. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
