My Favorite Prairie dog rifle

Remington 700 in 20 Vartarg, 22" Pac-Nor barrel, Jewel trigger with Nightforce SHV 5-20 scope. Easily shoots to 400 yards. Hardly any recoil, see all your hits and misses. Is not a barrel burner like some of the other calibers.

What's your barrel twist, and what bullets does it like

Rimfires are 22 LR in Begara BMR, Ruger 10/22 Target with Whistle Pig barrel and BX Red trigger, and .22 WMR in Savage 93 with Richards MF stock. All using a Sparrow suppressor and 3-12X40 Athlon Talos Mil Dots on all three.

Unsuppressed .204 Rugers in H&R Handi UV and Encore Pro Hunter both with Redfield 4-12X40 and what I started my daughter, nieces and nephews shooting varmints with. Stevens 200 .223 VXII 4-12X40, and NSS tuned 3 screw trigger, 6X45 Savage 10 VXII 4-12X40 SSS comp trigger, and 6X222 RM Stevens 200, Burris FFII 4.5-14X40, and SSS comp trigger.

Suppressed (SiCo Omega 300) .223 Rem M700 ADL B&C stock, Weaver GS Tac 3-10X40 Mil-Dot, and TT trigger, 6mm CM Savage 10, Arken 4-16X44 Mil, and factory AT, and last Howa 1500 6mm CM, Athlon Ares BTR Gen2 4-20X50 Mil, Bansner stock, and factory trigger.

The Reaper: T/C Encore 22-250AI 26" full bull barrel with Arken EPL4 6-24x50. Shooting 35HH @ 4865 fps.

Danger Zone: T/C Encore 204 Ruger 26" full bull barrel with Leupold VX-3i 6.5-20x40. Shooting 31HH @ 4345 fps.

DRT: For those windy days, I go to DRT (Wby Vanguard 7 STW with Arken EPL4 4-16x44). Shooting 90HH 4012 fps.

My PD guns are pretty mundane.
Rem 700 ADL in .243 wearing a Vortex Viper is the one that sees the most action.
Savage 93 .17HMR stainless/laminate with a bull barrel and Bushy Elite scope is next in line.
Windy days it's currently an old Rem 700 .270 wearing a Bushy Elite.
Working on getting a 700 in 7 RUM set up for Elk and extreme range PDs.

I started my journey with a Remington 700 VLS in 22-250 and killed a pile of them with that rifle and a 55 grain Nosler BT.

My furthest kill was 1404 with a 6mm Creedmoor and for shots over 700 yards I really like that cartridge.

My new rifles will be a RimX in 17 Mach2, a Tikka T1X in 17 HMR, a custom 223 shooting 75 ELDM, a 22 Creedmoor with 80 VLD, and my 6 Creedmoor.

I expect the 17 HMR and 223 will see 95% of the volume shooting.

204R all the way! Mine is a Savage target action, Rifle Basics trigger, xcaliber barrel 11 twist. Loves 40 grain vmax bullets groups seldom go over 1/4 inch at 100. 39 grain Sierra bullets shoot even better. 400 yard dogs are in big trouble with this rifle. I have many kills over 600.

20 Cal rules! I just came back from week in Montana /Wyoming on a Antelope hunt and after taking a goat spent a couple days shooting dogs. Only took surpassed 20 cals this time. 20 SCC, 20-223AI and a new 20 Nosler I built this spring. Unfortunately couldn't shoot past 550 yards due to the terrain but the 20's did great. Shot the 20 Nosler with 55 gr Bergers @ 3500 fps and was amazing watching shots with minimal recoil and the little 55 bucked the wind. 30 gr Blitz Kings and 55 gr Bergers did the job. With suppressed 20's the PD's didn't have a clue.

I used to shoot 220 AI and 22-250 AI with 75 and 85 grain loads. They don't come close in comparison and being able to watch your shot is where it's at.
