Let's Talk 338 Norma Magnum

-Berger 300grn OTM
-COAL touching lands - 3.680"
-I'm running them 3.620" in an standard AI mag.

The only thing i'd change is maybe running the CIP mag version so I can get the bullets closer to the lands. My accuracy isn't suffering at .060" off, but i'd like to get those bullets right next to the lands if possible. But I can work with what I have.

I'm running a mild 2735fps, with 88.7grns of H1000, Fed215M.

Suprisingly around 3/8" at 100. Sometimes better if i do my part. It seems to shoot better at 400yds on out though.

300 OTM, 3.670 COAL=.005 off lands.2725+ Shot 1'' @ 400 before.Shoot this in both mine. Id consider improving it. Swamplord is building a bunch of mags off the 338 NM and imp. which gets his case to same as lapua,about a 7 gr. gain

I havent tried it at 5 thou off. I want to be able to run my mag. Im sure it would shoot just as well.

I am running AI mag also would like a loner version , but it still very accurate.

I built a 338 Norma 35 degree long throat and does help improve it to 338 Laupa velocitys . That is 300 Gr Bergers. To do this I went to Seekins mag well cut out. This gives me 3.990 Oal.


Also have been working on a 7/338 Norma 35 degree long throat.

Gun is still up for grabs.

Well. Dropped the barrel off at the smith. Decided to go 25" on it.

25" should be fine. I spoke with Jimmy Sloan some time back and he said both the 338 and 300 Normas were designed for 26" barrels. I have a 300 norma with a 28" barrel thinking of setting it back when the time comes. If it were me running a 338, 26" would be the longest, and if running a suppressor 24" would be my choice.

Thinking about doing a 300norma imp. with a 35 degree shoulder and hopefully launching 230 bergers at 3000+ fps through a 30" barrel. Ive spoken to a few guys and so far ive heard nothing but great things about the 300nm. I can only imagine launching a 110gr bullet down the tube! Flat out boooking! If I can scrounge 1000rds out of the barrel ill be happy (just kidding about the 110gr bullets, i wouldnt do that). I think the 215 bergers would be great as well.
