Hey guys I had a recent post on my new rifle build, and I wanted to get everyone's opinions on whether they thought a 9lb rifle was too heavy. When I built this rifle it was intended to take out west on a elk hunt or similar. I have not physically had the scope and mounts off of the rifle to get bare weight, however leupold s website says the scope weights about 22.8oz and rings are 3.9oz. Do you all think a 9lb rifle scopes and loaded is too heavy for tree stand/ground blind/truck hunt? No excessive walking, no more than 200 yards to and from my hunting location.

Really depends on you, and how you use it. I don't see a problem for your intended use, so really going to boil down to you. I will say this, most of my long range hunting rifles are 10+ pounds. My dedicated long range target rifles are considerably heavier than that. I do have a few rifles that are 7.5-8.5 pounds that I take when I know ill be walking/hiking.

Not at all, you're right in there.

Firstly don't listen to us lol do YOU think it weighs too much for the intended purpose? That's really all that matters. I lean towards heavier rifles, am not wild about pencil thin barrels to achieve lightweight. So my 7 SS is on a Proof sendero and is right at 11.5lbs loaded, that was the intended out west gun. I personally love it. I do need a lighter can than the hybrid on the end as it's a little weighty at the end of the muzzle, but it balances so much better than my competition rifle.

Currently piecing together a 30 Sherman in my head for the same purpose. Mainly because i can fireform 300 PRC ammo should mine ever get lost. Weight should largely be the same.
