I see this thread is served years old. To keep from starting a new thread I'll just jump start this one. I'm not new to Elk hunting but new to hunting in Idaho. I'm coming from Oklahoma to hunt so scouting will be a problem. I'm proficient in long range shooting with magnum rifles although the 308 is my favorite. I'm looking for some good areas to hunt. Any suggestions is welcomed.

Hey backcountry, can I jump in on the advice train too? Myself and two others want to do a DIY elk hunt in Idaho this year, OTC. Never been to Idaho before, coming from California so no chance for a scouting trip.
I live next door to Idaho, and would love to hunt it for elk someday, and maybe even retire there when the time comes. Just did a trip out there for five days on sight seeing. Gorgeous country.
