I received this rifle from my Uncle for a wedding gift. It is chambered in .300 Weatherby There is no designation on the barrel that says it is a .300 Weatherby Mag, only reason I know is that my Uncle told me and it shot .300 WHBY MAG successfully. There is no manufacturer's name on the action or bolt; there are stamps that I have researched and figured out that they are Belgium proofing stamps of the Perron tower and of a Lion over P.V.. The scope is an original Burris fullfield 3-9x. Any info is appreciated.

Also....there is a vague stamp on the barrel that reads_._. SMITH. The initials before SMITH are unreadable. This barrel is obviously a custom, has anyone heard of this barrel maker?

smith could be the guy that installed it, action looks like a Mauser variant.:) the shroud over the back of the firing pin I've never seen that before but the rest of the action looks a lot like a 98

I hope you are left handed, gonna be rough shooting that right handed with the roll-over cutting you jaw off every shot.
I believe it to be a standard FN mauser, probably built by a smith and not an original Wea. I would like to see the fired brass to make sure it looks like it should because of no chambering designation. If it shot the Wea. rounds, it probably is good to go. I don't think that cartridge will fit anything else.
It looks to be very well made, I imagine it shoots well also. If you shoot right handed, you have quite a decision to make.

The rifle shot great...chambered the 300 weatherbys fine. I don't know what you mean about the left handed/right handed comment but i shoot right handed and the action worked well for me. The safety lever looks nothing like other mausers i have seen... still curious about the barrel... i am considering engraving the barrel so there is no confusion as to what it is chambered in when i pass it along or get alzheimer's.

In addition to the rifle, my uncle was loves unique things gave me these two hunting knives...seeing that both responders to this thread are from montana, do either of you know anymore about this knife maker? From what my uncle told me the smith was an older backwoods kinda guy that tools these knives by hand with no electricity other than a small generator for buffing. I love these knives and have tried looking online to get more info where i can expand my small collection.

The stock is not a left handed stock... the cheek rest is on the left side of the stock... just like every other RH stock i have ever seen.

As you can see the cheek rest is extremely large compared to a Rem 700 on left or Sako 85 on right.

Don't know about the barrel but the action and stock are "parker hale" based on the mauser 98. I just sold one in 22-250 a couple months ago. shroud and safety were standard on the parker hale versions.

My bad on the cheek piece, I must have been dyslexic yesterday. The stock does remind me of a Parker-Hale with that roll-over being that pronounced. I built a 7-08 for my daughter this winter that had their classic stock on it. She is left eye dominant, so it would not work for her. I am not sure if they used FN actions or not, I'm betting they did, which would explain the proof marks and the shroud/safety combo. Looks like a neat rig.
