Figured inch lbs was a given.Just checking 45 lbs or 45 inch lbs? I don't think action screws could take 45 lbs 302 rod bolts are only 25 lbs.
And a new stock and have the action trued. Done.Rebarrel that beast
OR,. Sell it and Buy,.. a,. Tikka !And a new stock and have the action trued. Done.
I have always set my action screws at 45 lbs in all my rifles, front and back. All my centerfires will shoot .5 @ 100 or better. Does it really make a difference, or does that pertain to rifles with uneven action/bottom metal pressure? I never experimented with action screw torque. Honest question.
I'm sure the Tikkas are great rifle. I've never had one. I want to get one though, just to play with and learn. The facts of building a rifle on a Remington or Remington clone is the best way to go due to the options of stocks and triggers and barrels, etc. If I had a Remington that wasn't shooting I'd start with a stock and trigger, then swap in a barrel and have it trued at the same time.OR,. Sell it and Buy,.. a,. Tikka !
That would BE,.. CHEAPER !
Read my post, # 80,. IF wanting to, "Keep", the Rifle
We HAD, 2 of, these,.. Remington 700,.. "tupperware turds" !
I feel like I've heard more and more of that in the last 10-15 years. They were once great rifles.A few years ago purchased a Remington Scendaro in 7 mm Mag. Could not get better than 3" groups with anything tried. Finally had it rebarrelled and the action to barrel match was way out of spec. Rethreaded the action and barrel fit and shoots perfect now. Remingtons once renowned quaility did not live up to its reputation in that situation.
