This is actually a Cicadas "Hull". The real Cicadas that climbed out of the "Hull" was devoured by RED Ants in a few minutes.
You cannot believe how loud they are at night with their "BUZZING SOUND". They come out every 13 to 17 years. They are GAINGANTIC when they emerge from their shell. Been known to carry away Cats, Small Dogs, and little Children.
I had a picture of a just "out of the pod" Cicadas, but while it was drying off it's wings to fly away it grabbed my SamSung Galaxy S10 Phone and flew away!!!

I saw one yesterday hiding on the side of a step, one of my grandson's was walking in front of me 
I snatched it up and put it down the back of his shirt oh lord the dance he did was priceless

The best day I think I ever had fishing fresh water was after I collected about 100 or so and took them as bait.

If you want to have fun with them super glue a long string to it's chest area and let it go, it's like a airplane on a string
We would do that with the giant horsefly's too
