When you seat 215 primers in your 408 & 375 Cheytacs how deep do you seat them? I have some problem ammo that I bought years before I started to reload and the primers actually protrude out about .002 or so. I know when I load 50 BMG I seat them from .004-.008 because CCI #35s have to have a bit of "crush" on them to properly arm them. Do you have to do the same with #215s?

Thank You

Any primer has to be fully seated. Some will be flush, to .004" below..

I did use a RCBS ram prime to seat primers in some problem brass. After measuring the pocket depth, finding them to shallow, i purchased a pocket uniformer.

Note: Large rifle and pistol primers are different in size.

No experence with Cheytacs.

But they should never protrude past the base of the case right? I have never read of a situation where that is desirable but I am new to reloading

I don't have this problem with my Cheytac brass and 215's. As stated I would ream the pockets, I usually do this with new brass anyways for uniformity.
A protruding primer can be a safety hazard.
