so im runnin out rounds for my 300 ultra mag and was thinking bout changing it up a bit and i noticed alot of ppl are runnin the likes of a maxs and their equivelents my brother in law has downed, (1 shot kills) alot of animals ranging frm wild pigs to big dear frm 200-400 yrds my question is are they still gonna kill out to 1000yrds at slower verlocites o\r am i better of staying with a huntting bullet and swapping frm hornady to 4 example nosler?

    thanks

From pd's to deer size I use A-Max's if that is the bullet that my barrel likes the best.
Longest kill to date with a AMax is 1037 yards.

I've shot numerous wild hogs with the A-max and it has worked well. These weren't very long range kills (all under 300yards) but the bullet performed well. From everyone I've talked to it works well at extended range aswell. Ernie just reenforced that.

The Amaxs have worked great out of 7mmRM, 300WM, 280AI for us. We use them for thin skinned game with great results.

If your shooting the 300 RUM, the 208 amax is a great choice, buck the wind great and are awesome for accuracy! Used to shoot them outta my wsm at 2800 and it shot like a dream! Never shot game with the 208 but i have taken an antelope and deer with the 6.5 140 amax. The higer the impact velocity the more internal desctruction you prolly see. The whitetail I shot was at around 80 yards and impact velocity at around 3100 and the bullet never did exit but destroyed the internals. The deer went about 30 yards and was dead! The antelope was at 550 yds and the amax appeared to have excellent controlled expansion passing all the way through and leaving a golf ball sized exit hole. The antelope fell over dead. Impact velocity at around 2500 fps.

If you havnt found any yet and are interested i think i have 550 or so of the 208's I dont shoot 30 cal anymore so there's no use for them here. Let me know if you wanna come to a deal on them.

IN MEXICO WE SHOOT for competition at live sheep/goat at 400 or 500 meters, I usually shoot from my 308 win the 178 grain a-max and get terrific results.

last year I shot a javelina with my 6.5-284 with the 140 a-max at almost 500 meters and you would not belive the exit hole it left, almost a grapefruit though it did hit the spine.

I would not hesitate using it.
I also own a 338 edge and the matchkings rule for hunting.

I had very good results with the 162gr 7mm AMAX.
One shot kills at 600yds and 400yds on antelope last year. Both dropped on the spot!

--I know this is a really old post, but I just joined and saw that you are in Gillette, as am I, are the 208's still up for grabs? Just bought a 300 win Mag. Looking for a good heavy long range bullet. Hit me back if they are still available. Thanks....:)
