Archery starts oct. 1

This guy showed up at one of the stand/bait sites in last couple of days. Only started putting out feed week ago. Got daylight pics of small bucks but none of him yet. Ruts still about eight weeks away. But he's interesting.I'm thinking 3 or 4 years old. This is Alabama woods buck, not a crop area deer.

That is a really nice buck, and only getting bigger, looks like he is still in velvet. Archery starts here in Texas Oct 1 also I think, getting ready and spending way too much money preparing......

Alabama is broken up into zones pertaining to when the rut hits. I'm in zone E. Its a small section of the state that has a Thanksgiving time frame rut. Its only part of two counties. Calhoun and Cherokee. These were transplant deer from Wisconsin and Michigan from 1950s.Rest of the state is from Christmas to march. You'll see bucks chasing in early turkey season in South Alabama. Its crazy. But you can hunt bucks ruting just about all season somewhere.
