Anyone knowledgeable about old Newhouse bear traps?

This is a S. Newhouse No. 5 manufactured Sept 28 1911. It has been in the family since, well no one in the family knows now and mom is 86... She believes it came from a mercantile in Boulder, CO and was brought by wagon when the family homesteaded in North Park, CO.

It just came to me after hanging in a shed for the last 44 years.

I'm curious about a stamping on the bottom and what the original chain looked like.
