Am I expecting too much from a hunting rifle?

    These are the groups from my Tikka .223ai at 115m (120yds.)

    The rifle was on a bipod at the front and bags at the rear.

    The groups are as you can see above are a little under .5" center to center and I have managed 2.5" groups at 400yds with the same load.

    Am I expecting too much trying to improve this load in this caliber ???

    80grain Berger VLD's
    24.9 grains Of Varget
    Rem 7.5 primers
    COAL 2.445"
    Lapua Match Brass

    That's a damn good group if you ask this hunter. But you can never expect TOOO much :D

    .50-.223=.277" 5 round groups. That's about a .260MOA group at 120yds.

    I really don't see how you can improve on that much with what you have. In fact most people would be envious as hell.

    Uuuuuuum.... going to have to go with.... leave it alone. You're out shooting some bench rest guys on a bi-pod! Looks good, don't touch anything!

    The rifle appears to be plenty accurate at close range.

    I would spend my time and $ honing my skills and collecting dope at longer ranges and with cold bore first shot hits.
