Why not build a 7mm Wby? Same case, with heavier and higher BC bullets.

Any magnum long action will work. Your best bet if you plan on going really custom is a Remington 700. It has the largest aftermarket following.

or stay with the 270 and run the 165gr matrix bullets with their .650BC instead

Whatever, just offering him another option...

The 7mm 180 Hybrids have a .674 BC, just FYI.

It's going to be a .270wby bc of a promise I made to a buddy of mine who passed away. Talking to McWhorter and Beanland now about the build....not sure who to go with yet.

I called McWhorter yesterday and they really acted like they were above working on a rifle. He even told me they "didn't have time to rebarrel my Accumark to 6.5 Wby", and that they "only have time to build their own rifles from scratch and no longer work on anyone else's guns, unless they're ordering a new complete rifle from them."

That right there pissed me off. Screw McWhorter if they think they're above working on guns that already exist. My money's green like everyone else's...

Sorry, just figured yall might want to know that tidbit he told me yesterday on the phone.

I'm sorry but I don't. However, I remember reading many happy customers and repeat customers.

Use the custom search on the top right hand corner.

    Good luck!

No, it sounded like an older fellow. He seemed not too ready to help with questions, and wouldn't give me a price on rebarreling my rifle, because they "don't really do that anymore, and only have time for the new rifles they build".

All the happy reviews I have read, I would have thought they would have been friendlier, and other people talking about how they rebarreled their rifles.

Whatever, I have a local gunsmith, who is phenomenal, but I have been interested in the 6.5 Wby for a while, but they weren't interested in helping me or taking my money.

I was shocked, because of how many good reviewe I had read how they were all friendly and helpful.

that's cool, i'm as big a 7mm fan as anybody. and my 7x300 loves the 180s  but I like them coming out of the larger case for the edge in velocity.

I too am looking to build a 270 weatherby but i'm wanting to do an improved version.

Ah, you want a .270 Ackley Magnum. That would be a whitetail hammer with those big 165 Matrix bullets. Anytime you improve one of the Weatherby cases with a 40* shoulder you get a great caliber. My .300 Ackley Mag is basically an improved .300 Wby with blown-out walls and a 40* shoulder.
