A question about correct twist rate

It was common in some long range matches when 7.62 NATO M80 ball ammo was issued and a 1:14 twist barrel shooting the 147 FMJBT bullets 3000 fps shot them most accurate.

Now the bullets are so much better they do not seem to mind being spun faster. I know one time I built a 12 twist 338. Regular 250,s it was fine.Back in the late 80,s there was a guy in Idaho making solid base bonded bullets like the federal edge TLR. Those 250,s would not shoot in a 12. Next 338 had a 10. I learned my lesson:)
