6x284 (It\'s here!!!!)

Hey guys, I just received my 6x284 with .272 tight neck. I am going to do barrel brake in this Saturday. I will also try to get some load testing completed. I will be testing the 87grn V-Max. I am going to use H4350. I will try 52.5, 53 and 53.5 charges. As I 've mentioned many times, I am hoping to get close to 3800 fps, with excellent accuarcy. I am thinking my velocity will be more like 3700 to 3750.
I am really hoping the 87grn V-max's shoot well out of this rifle. If not, I will test it with the 75grn V-Max's. I know many have seen the specs on this rig, but here they are again;

1. Caliber-6x284 w/.272 tight neck
2. Action-Nesika Bay Model K, 1.450 Dia with tactical bolt and Knob
3. Barrel-Krieger 30", 1-12 twist, 1.250 tapered to 1.00
4. Stock-McMillan A-5, Thumbwheel CP, 3 Way Spacer System, Matte Black color, ect.
5. Jewel 2oz Trigger
6. Vias Muzzle Brake
7. Davidson Base with 20MOA
8. Kelby 30mm rings
9. Nightforce 12x42x56mm NXS with Double Dot Ret.

I know some wonder why I would go with the 1-12 twist in 6x284, well, I really wanted to shoot the lighter bullets really fast and the 1-12 twist will allow me to push the 75 and 87 grn bullet to max speed. Also, I am having two rifles built, a 338 Lupa Improved and of course the deadly 338 Allen Mag, by Kirby Allen. The 338 rifles will only be shooting the Match type bullets. So, I decided I wanted a rifle that would be dedicated to shooting the light poly tipped bullets at lightning speeds. I will have two rifles that will be shooting the 300grn Sierra Match King, the 338 Lupa Improved will lunch them at around 2950 and the 338 Allen Mag will lunch the 300 Sierra MK at around 3400 to 3500fps. So, knowing I was going to have two long range 338's for super long range work, I thought it would be nice to have a lightning quick 6x284. As I mentioned before, I know speed doesn't equal accuracy, but I am hoping to get the best of both worlds with the poly tipped bullets. The 6x284 is the speed demon of 6mm's, so I really want to see what it can do. This rifle will be used out to 800 to 1000 yards. I am pretty confident this rifle is going to be deadly accurate out to those ranges. If I have to shoot past 1000 yards, the 338 Lupa will come out to play, and if I have to shoot past 2000 yards, the king of all 338's, the Kirby Allen 338 Allen Mag will come out. I am ready to do some serious long range varmint hunting, and I am hoping to get into the 1000, 1500, and 2000 yard varmint club this year. I am going to Eastern Wyoming in May of 2007, so I should have a good chance of making a couple of the clubs, hopefully, I will make all three. Anyhow, I will let everyone know how the rifle shoots and what types of velocities I am receiving with 87grn V-Max. Here are the componets I will be using, for load development, on Saturday for my 6x284;

1. Bullet-87grn V-Max
2. Powder-H4350
3. Lupa Brass
4. Primers-Federal 210M
5. Brass has been prepped, cleaned flash holes, uniformed primer pockets, weighed, neck turned, ect.

If anyone has anymore load info they would like to share regarding 6x284, using the 75 to 87grn bullets, please, I would love to hear everyones suggestions and comments. Thanks,

Wildcat

Wildcat,

Look foward to the results......do some load workup this weekend myself with the 243AI. Lets see some pictures of that rig.

I took some pics tonight, however, I am not real good at posting. My wife is the king at the computer, I just have to get her to help me. I will also take pictures of the group's, if there worth showing. Good luck with your load work up, I can't wait to hear about the results. I am really hoping I have good results with 87grn V-Max, it has a pretty good BC, .400. How does that BC stack up against the 105's and 107's.

Wildcat,
Good luck with you new rifle and the load development. If you can get those V-Max's on at 3700-3800 fps you should be seeing red clouds on the horizon real soon.

the 107 has a b.c of .527 from my drop data. I am pushing them @ 3500 with no moly out of a 28 inch kreiger.

Mountainsheep, thanks, I am looking forward to testing her tomorrow. I can't wait to see this bullet hit a little varmint. I will let you know how the velocities and accuracy turn out.

d-a, that is some awesome velocity with the 107 Matchking. What kind of powder our you using and what twist is your barrel.

Re: 6x284 (It\'s here!!!!)

i am using a stiff load of retumbo the load density is @ 103 % the kreiger is a six groove 1-8 true twist.

Re: 6x284 (It\'s here!!!!)

Do you think RETUMBO would work for the lighter bullets like the 87grn and 75grn V-MAX? Is your 6x284 a tight neck?
