6.5X47 Lapua data

Recently started loading for 6.5X47. Published data is limited to Vhitavouri, so I'd like to share what I've come up with so far.

35.5 gr 2,363 fps

Bullet: Hornady 129gr SST
Powder: Ramshot Big Game
OAL: 2.774" (2.162 to ogive)
Primer: Fed GM205M
Case: Lapua, 1.839"
35.5 2,503 fps
36.0 2,533 fps
36.5 2,559 fps

Velocities were measured about 12-14' in front of the muzzle (23" barrel). As you can see, I've been working up slowly and could go higher than I've done so far with some powders. Velocity from IMR4007 was a bit disappointing.

I have a little more data to add. I upped the amount of Ramshot Big Game, this time behind a Berger VLD. Results are:

Bullet: 130 gr Berger VLD
Powder: Ramshot Big Game
COL: 2.794" (2.132" to ogive)
Primer: CCI BR4
Case: Lapua, 1.839"
37.0 gr - 2,555 ft/s
37.5 gr - 2,591 ft/s
38.0 gr - 2,626 ft/s

Still not exactly setting things on fire, speed-wise. In the data Berger provided me (from Quickload, I think), they recommend Ramshot Hunter. I bought some Big Game months ago because reading on 6mmbr.com, everyone seemed to recommend Reloader 15. I got some of that, and also Big Game and IMR4007 'cause they're all very close in burn rate. Velocity-wise, Re15 does much better than the other 2.

Anyone else have any experience with this cartridge?

Try H4350 behind the 130 Berger...start at around 39.0gr and work up. We run 42.2 gr with the 130's and get right at 3000fps out of our 26" barrels. Some say that's pretty hot....the last batch of brass had 12 loadings on it. Primer pockets still tight, but the necks need annealed. I tried Ramshot Hunter also...it shot very well under some conditions, and sometimes I didn't know where it was going to land. H4350 is pretty much the standby for us...1/4moa and very stable. This is a very efficient accurate case...I think you will like it.

Thanks for the advice. This is my first custom gun and so far I'm very impressed. I have a few of what I thought were accurate rifles. This one chambered in the Lapua blows them away. Yesterday I shot it out to 400 yards with the 123gr scenar and Re15. Consistently around 0.50 m.o.a. from 100 to 400 yards. Until recently I'd been doubting my skills from the bench based on some loads I'd been shooting over my chronograph with other rifles.

While this doesn't appear to be a real popular topic, I thought I'd add to it again. Was at the range again recently and came up with the following:

40.0 gr - 2,498 ft/s

Powder: Ramshot Hunter
COL: 2.737" (2.150" to ogive)
Primer CCI 400
Case: Lapua, 1.839"
41.0 gr - 2,621 ft/s

Quite a jump in velocity on the bergers going from 40 to 41 grains of powder. I don't think I misread any of the chrony readings. All numbers are based on an average of 5 shots.

If you have any CCI450 primers, try that with the Hunter/Berger 130 load, and up the powder charge a little more. We ran it for awhile, but it became inconsistent with small environmental changes. A friend of ours uses it w/ 139 scenars and has great result year round.

TMR, thanks for the advice. Was out to the range today to try out Hunter with 123 grain matchkings and magnum primers. Results were:

Bullet: 123 grain Sierra HPBT
Powder: Ramshot Hunter
COL: 2.742" (2.157" to ogive)
Primer: CCI 450
Case: Lapua, 1.837"
41.5 gr - 2,700 ft/s
42.0 gr - 2,740 ft/s
42.3 gr - 2,759 ft/s

Accuracy very good at 100 yards, but velocity still a bit disappointing. I can get about 2,800 ft/s from 123 grain scenars with just 37.2 grains of Re 15 with equal or better accuracy. Don't think I could get much more than 42.3 grains in the case.

Don't have any H4350, but still have plenty of Re15 (which is my go to load for this rifle) and loads of Ramshot Hunter (bought an 8lb jug). Don't think I'll tinker with any more load development with this rifle. Just have fun shootin' it!

Hi, I'm the "friend" TMR is talking about.
I shoot one load only in (2) mine and my daughter's 6.5x47L's.
43 grains Hunter, 139 Scenars, CCI 450's Lapua brass.
Seat with 10 tho jam. Last week in my rifle I shot a 3 shot 1.75" group at 600 yards and in Shayla's rifle yesterday shot a .3- 3shot group at 100.
I was shooting with TMR's brother yesterday and left the ammo and rifle out in 100 degree direct sunlight for about 20 minutes to see if the load would hold up, it did.
Getting 2820-2840 depending on the rifle, mine has a 25" 3 groove Lija with 3000+- rounds, her's, a 26" Rock with 400+- rounds.

The test worked out then....glad it stays constant...will be good in Wyoming in a few weeks.

I have been running our standard load through the new 6.5 for the last few days...it is very accurate.

Here is a 10 shot group today at 300yds with 130 jlks

the same load with the bergers runs right at 3000fps.

The small group is at 100yds, the other is a 500yds with the 130 bergers

New member here, but I had to add to this one. I just began working up IMR4007ssc in my 6.5x47L and found it to be a very accurate powder. Several loads under 1" and a few <0.5"@ 100yds with both the 130 Berger and Scirocco.

JTP, I think it's about 2.105" (ogive) from memory.

Hello out there. I just built my new 6.5x47L.27" Bartlien1-8.5 rem 700 blue printed.
Here are two great loads.
R-15- 39grs/[email protected] 3000fps 1.5-2.0"groups@600yards
H-4350-40.5grs/[email protected] 2900fps 1.5-20" [email protected] load works all year long. the load with R-15 is temp sensative.(over 90deg you will have some pierced primers.all loads with cci 400 primers. will be testing cci-450 primers next time out.
