6.5 prc expectations

Loading up 6.5prc with the following
Lapua brass
BR2 primers
Retumbo @ 57.5-58.0 grains
156 bergers elite hunter
Shooting at 2800-2820 fps and I am thinking I should be able to get more fps.
CA ridgline carbon fiber barrel.

Very light effector mark on one casing but I would like to know WHAT I should expect for FPS . Hunt in AZ so a 700 yard shot isn't abnormal. And the bullets shooting sub .5 moa but should I push for more FPS?????

I don't think that's far off. I was getting 2,820 with 58.0 H1000 in a 24". Lapua brass, F210M primer. 2.95" COAL.

56.0 R26 got me 100 fps faster in same barrel on same day.

That sounds pretty mild. The 6.5 SS or the SST will both run north of 3100 in a short action with no overload and they are similar cartridges.

Using identical RL26 load as Kimber7man. Maybe 56.2grs. Getting 2924fps for the 156 in a Browning x-bolt.
Stopped there as it was a consistent 1/2" group for 5 shots. 26" barrel though.

I also have a CA 6.5 PRC. I worked up to 57 grains h1000 and a 156 and got 2960 when I first got the gun. Mild pressure signs (ejector marks). Currently running the 140 VLD with 57 grains H1000 in my PRC. Haven't run it through chrono yet.

I have 2 PRCs, a custom w/22" barrel and a Seekins with 24" barrel. Seekins load with the 156 is ~2880fps, about max in fired ADG with 56g N565. The 22" barrel shoots the 156 at ~2860fps with 54g RL26 in fired ADG. If I push these up a grain more, I start to get ejector marks and/or light bolt click on some firings.

I'd try a different powder like N565. That should safely get you ~2900 with a 26". You didn't mention barrel length, though.

Internet velocity claims will make you doubt real world accuracy nodes.

My Sherman is over 100 fps slower than claimed velocity even at ejector mark. 100 fps under that for velocity node.

SKIP the 156's and go with, the 140 gr Elite Hunters at,.. 3,100 + FPS
My .270 WSM launches, 140 Classic Hunters at, 3,175 ave Velocity and they,.. Kill like, "the Hammer of Thor"
Penetrated through, BOTH Shoulders / Hides and SCRAMBLED the Upper Lungs on an Elk for,. DRT !
You NEED,.. the SPEED !
