338 Win mag

Even a 225g Accubond will travel end to end on large deer, even an Elk.
With my 338-416 Rigby 45° shoulder wildcat, the 225's and 250's would exit at any angle, so penetration of the heavy 338's is way up there. The 285g was almost impossible to keep inside the animals.

Cheers.

Anyone here load for a 338 Win ? I bought some 210 gr Hammers to try. The only prob I've had in the past was loading 200 gr bullets as they were to long to get a full charge. Seems the copper bullets are even longer. Any suggestions ? I could do a bullet change would like to keep weight between 200 and 225 gr. Thanks

If you need more room you might look for H414. Similar burn rate as H4350 but ball powder.

I have yet to try another combo but I'm currently using 200 Gr SST's and IMR 4064 with good accuracy. Love the cartridge!

338 is a great deer round provided you are competent with the caliber. Here is a pic of a nice buck that my 338, my pal from Alaska used during the 2021 season in the Yoop.

I'll second (or third of fourth or whatever it is) the RL19 and 225 gr. TTSX combination. Certainly don't need that much cannon for whitetail, but has worked well for me, from whitetail up through eland.

If I had to whittle down to one rifle to cover the broadest range of hunting scenarios, a .338 WM would be a great choice.

Agree with what Sixgun said. All I've used for 30 yrs. on antelope through grizzly has been a .338 Win. Mag. 210 or 225 Partitions make a nice hole through smaller critters and expands well on the bigger ones.

Same for my wife…..excluding the grizzly! memtb

It's always nice to have a 338 in the stable, it's also my medium and largest cartridge . Flat enough shooting without excess recoil ,yeah the 338 is a keeper,Cheers !!!.

I had 5 338WM rifles, some of the most accurate rifles I owned.
None of them shot quite as good as my custom Win Model 70 in 375 Weatherby.
It was that accurate that if I could have tamed the recoil, I would have used it for gags at the F-class range! Lol.

Cheers.
