Ok this is kind of a loaded question !
Lots of factors to think about in this question.

Custom Built or off the Shelf 338 Rum Rifle .
I have been stuck on the 300 gr bergers for about what 10 or 12 338 Rums . I did try a 24" 338 Rum and the 250 gr bergers. Its shoots great . Only one kill it was under 50 yards .

My question would be for a all around bullet out to 1200 yards on game , not Grizzly but everything else .
What is your choice ? Bullet , Powder ect .
Thanks

L😇L! Be prepared to get inundated.

i have a custom built 338 rum with a terminus action and a 27 inch bartlien barrel. i shoot a 300g berger with 93.8g h1000 at 2900 fps. shoots great. i have not found any begrer bullets or rl33 powder for over a year.

These shot well in my edge, so I'm sure they will perform in a rum.

I have one being built now. Never has a 338 but have had a couple of 300 WMs, 30 nosler and 300 rum many years back.

I have H1000 and retumbo but much prefer the 1000.

Fed 215Ms and a few hundred cci 250s.

400 berger 300 hybrids, 100 250s.
100 badlands 250s
50 badlands 275s
50 SMK 300s.

My hope is for the 300 hybrids and 250 SB IIs. I feel like the 9.3 twist will be marginal for the 275s and velocity will suffer enough to make the extra BC juice not worth the squeeze. But I will at least run a ladder test to confirm.

Brass is prepped and just waiting on the stock to arrive.

PSA, I believe Manners is an old Indian word for slow delivery process... 😉

Keep em coming guys ! This is no right or wrong post .
We all have our own ideas to the best /latest and greatest bullet .
Hands down my Experience with the 300 gr bergers has been Amazing !
But I havent tryed anything else really .
Let it Rip guys !
Good or Bad .

I've got a friend that swears by the 265 lazers out of his Lapua. I haven't tried them but do have a few hundred 400gn for a 375 if my barrel ever comes in.

If you want speed, the Apex 200 gr. It might not get you to the ranges you want though. Or possibly the Hammer HHT 265 gr. Both all copper bullets and may not be what you're after. But it's definitely something different for you to try.

I have a short barrel 338 RUM with a 23" nine twist barrel. It shoots the 200 gr afterburners at 3200 FPS with R26. No on game experience yet.

Yes 250 Berger's absolutely kills hard. Shot bears, elk, deer with them. They are excellent choice. 250 accubonds were a great bullet as well.

Not a 338RUM, but with my 338Edge, I was running 265g & 300g ABLR, 300g Berger OTM, & 285g Flatline solid copper out of my 338-416 Rigby Improved. The latter aren't for hunting.
I was given a bunch of Hornady 285g ELD Match bullets and used them on barrel break in and smashing rocks, I don't like Hornady bullets for hunting, and I don't find anything "match" about them, so take this as you will, but at 800 or so, they weren't consistent.
The 300g OTM did weird things at range, so I dropped them too.
Both of my rifles had/have 9" twists, this may make a difference.
As to buying factory or going custom, I would always go custom, especially regarding twist and length.

Cheers.
