338 RUM bullet

Several good options listed but, the 265ABLR is one sexy pill. I trust it to perform up close on out to the furthest shot I'd dare take. My little 338 Win is throwing them just over 2600fps and is lethal beyond any shot I'd ever take. In the RUM, you should be able to hit 2900fps and have an absolute lightning rod in your hands!

I've used 250 Accubonds and 250 bergers at close and far range. Both work excellent, I use the bergers mainly with the better BC. Cant go wrong with either

Just got a 338 RUM back from the smith. 26" 1:10 FIERCE carbon fiber barrel (I believe a Mcgowen and they just do the wrap) with a defiance rebel action put together on a manners EH1. SAAMI reamer used.
This rifle is going to be used a lot for elk and occasionally mule deer. Shots will probably be possible from 100-1000 yards.
I am looking for opinions/experience/accuracy and easy of load development with the bigger 338 cals using the following: 270 ELD X, 265 ABLR, 225 or 250 accubond, 250 Berger. Am not wanting to shoot 300 grainers.
H-1000 is my powder. ADG is my brass.
also, anyone using any of those bullets in a 338 rum, what velocities were you getting?

I used a 338 RUM for ELK and my preference was the 250 Ballistic tip and the 250 Accubond for the longer shots, and the 250 Partition for the dark woods where shots would be close and near max velocity. I knew where each load went and zeroed the longer range load for 300+ distance. and the close shots could use the same zero within 1" of the long range stuff. The short range ammo came in very handy several times and the results were perfect.

Ballisticlly, the 250 grain bullets appear to be the optimum bullet for the 338 RUM.

I'm curious what numbers are you using to reach that conclusion? Trying to figure out what ballistic advantage you think a 250 AB or Partition has over the 265ABLR or 270X.

My factory Remington Bdl Deluxe seems to like the 285 Eldm's and H-1000 @ 2831 if I can remember correctly.

Now my 30" Benchmark Carbon Rum seems to like the 300 gr Berger Elite hunters and H-1000 @ 2884 . This was last weekend .

My 338 RUM loves the 250 grain accubonds... haven't lost a single animal.. elk, mule deer, antelope, south texas whitetail... one and done. Great round.. very capable.. fun to shoot

I've had 270 eldx over 3040 fps w/ rl26, I also have a 28" barrel that seems faster than average. I'm pursuing 300 bergers as my rifle is getting them to 2900fps. And the ballistics are pretty impressive there.

Have you developed a load with the 300 Bergers? Are you able to load to magazine length?

Yes 92.6gr N570 2810fps very accurate. I'm running 33k off lands. Oal is 3.91 so feeds with no issues from my cfe9 4" magazine.

I had great accuracy in a Mod 700 338 RUM with the 250PT. I gave that rifle to a young father ( lots of kids, no money for hunting gear!) I then used another 338 RUM with the 180 NBT going 3500. Killed an aoudad with it around 250, to me, the wound channel looked like a Partition went through. Fine bullet, but I'm a "point and shoot" guy anyhow. The outfitter liked that rifle so well ( it was a Vanguard action with a 25" gain twist barrel in a Boyds Pepper Classic...ugly rifle!) he offered me $1100 on the spot for it! What could I do???
