I'm about to start developing a load for a 308 Win w/ 20" barrel (trued up 700 w/ Shilen 1:10 twist). Consistently shoots .5 MOA and better with Fed 168 SMK factory ammo. But, MV ES/SD isn't great for beyond 500yds.
This will be a long range target load. ...sniper tournament, etc. (And, no... My buddy doesn't have a 260 Rem. )
It appears that the 175 SMK has about a 2 MOA windage advantage at 1K vs the 168 SMK with a 10mph wind.
It appears that anything over 175gr isn't likely to get adequate MV to take advantage of a better BC. Hence, I'm looking at 175gr bullets.
The 175 SMK vs 175 Berger OTM look like a toss-up for BC. Does anyone have a strong preference and why?
Should I consider another bullet?
What powder would you choose? I'm leaning towards Varget.
Using Brass is Lapua, CCI BR2 Primers, Redding Type-S FL dies.
Thanks in advance!
