.308 at 1000 yards

I'd be willing to try the 210 VLD but my barrel is the 1:12 factory 26 inch heavy barrel. I think 185 grs is about it.

I and others have ran the 208 amaxs in 12x barrels. It's not optimum but accuracy has been good. Near sea level in freezing temps they've key holed a bit at 700 yards but if its warm and or there is any elevation involved they'll do fine.

The 12x will handle up to 200s with ease. At least most of them. 185s and 190s are no problem at all.

Bergers 190 is just a hair heavier and a bit slicker than the 185. Not many use either the 185 or the 190 hunting vld so they are always available. If i were to start over I would look for a slightly slower powder than varget, and use a federal 210 primer.

I am shooting a 175 SMK @ 2730 fps out of a 22" Krieger elevation is 2250 and it will do anything I want out to 1100 after that a 210 VLD and I use Varget exclusively for my 308's

Varget is the only powder I use for mine, as well. Did a quick inventory earlier tonight and found out I had more Varget, and less H1000, than I thought I did. I thought I was about even on them, but I'm about 3lbs short on H1000 than I thought I was. Oh well. I'll just go pick up a few more lbs. in the next week or so.

I run one of your so called "no sense 20 inch" barrels in 1 in 10 twist. 185 berger juggernaught at 2600. 5500' at 25° It doesn't go sub sonic till 1360. Even at sea level I'm super sonic to 1120.@25°.a 308 will take game at 600-800 or more, wind drift will be your problem with a 308 more then anything else. With any cartridge for that matter. I've always found that if you can make good hits reading wind with a 308 when you step the game up to a hi performance round making hits just come all the easier. Making consistent hits in wind with a 308 at a 1000 takes work, with a big 338, 7mm, 300 mag ect... even most 6mm's and 6.5's *it's like cheating.
