300RUM bullet choice

I loaded up some 185 Berger Classic Hunters for a friend's 300 rum, mild-ish load has them going 3375 fps. Deer hate it

Been loading for a guys RUM , 190 Bergers ,retumbo. He had a break installed by nearby GS and turned it into a ***** cat recoil wise. My 6.5 man bun kicks harder. 3150 ish if I remember correctly.
Did you load close to lands or mag length? Buddy has a gun set up with 190s and Retumbo

We have shot elk with my .300RUM with:
180 Rem PSP (factory ammo)
180 NP (factory ammo)
180 Swift Scirocco (factory ammo-not impressed at all)
175 Barnes LRX @ 3350
175 SMK @ 2950 (reduced load for my daughter)
210 VLD (both H & T) @ 2950 or 3100
210 SMK @ 3100
215 Hyb @ 3100
230 Hyb @ 3113 (current load)

The 210-230s are magic for a 1:10" twist. If you want to squeeze every bit out of the .300RUM, the 230 or a fast twist w. 245s is the way to go for LR game crushing power.

I think the RUM was born to run the heavies. If you want to shoot a 180-190, a .30-06 or .300WM will do just as good.

Mag length, Remington custom shop gun. He tried some 215,s but turned it into a two shooter so no joy there. But it shot them ok. Wouldn't shot the big ELDX bullets. Wrong twist. He's got a picture of one of his group's he carries around. .266 inch at 200 . that was with the 190 . gun was in lead sled. It shot great for me, but I couldn't get that group off a bench. Hit a 180ish pound buck with it and the bullet stretched out the off side hide and blew hair all over the place. Looked like you shaved it. Bullet was in pieces.

What animals will you be hunting and at what ranges will you likely be shooting (mostly within 300, mostly between 300 and 600, mostly over 600)? I have had three 300 RUMs but all of my shots on game have been under 600 and a lot have been within 50 yards.

Under 600, but would like to have the capability of hitting 1k. Gun is put together for the sole purpose if I ever go elk hunting. If I don't, it'll be to hunt whitetail. 1st bullet I will be trying with be the 190 berger
