3006- re chamber ?????Your vote??

6.5x55, almost the perfect round for anything up to smaller Elk and practice too. Barrel life is good and can perform similar to a 6.5x284 if loaded high with modern action this can be done. Tons of plinking ammunition and military surplus ammo too play with.

Or 35 Whelen, kills anything under 300 yards. DRT... including bears and hogs. The 30-06 is a perfect conversion as it is a necked up 30-06 cartridge, just need a barrel.

Both have been around about 100 years and still awesome.

The Whelen is my next build.

I follow you, that makes total sense. Sounds like 338-06 is the right blend of speed and thumping power. I want a 280 but will probably go with something in wood and blue for that.....something purty:)
