300 WSM reloading info request

Haven't made it past r17 & 208 amax's yet. They've held one third to one half moa in my t3. I didn't chrono it, but it doped out at around 2900 fps.

This combo is working very well in my 300 WSM also. RL17 seems to really light up the WSM.

What primers are you guys using. I would think because of the case design I might get better performance with large rifle primers. Even though it will be 10 to 15 degrees I think I'll start with 210m with imr4350. I have wlrm cci250 and 215m also if anyone thinks they are a better choice?

Stock Tikka T3 Lite 300 WSM shooting sub 1/2 MOA out to 400 (haven't shot it farther) with RL19 and 180 gr TSX

I like IMR 7828SSC, H4831SC, and RL17 in the 300 WSM. The 7828SSC is my favorite. You get near RL17 velocity without the temp swings. H4350 is an excellent powder as well.

I've used all the above in my 300WSM. At the moment I going am with H4831 (not going so fast that I need the extra capacity of the SC though I did try it). All are exactly as Brent says. YMMV but I stick with the temp stable (extreme) powders most of the time.

Tikka T3 Lite 300 WSM

Winchester brass, fully prepped (trimmed to 2.090", flash hole deburred, primer pocket uniformed, case mouth chamfered & deburred)

Remington 9 1/2M Primer

68.6 gr Alliant RL-19

180gr Barnes TSX

COAL - 2.825" CBTO - 2.230" using Hornandy comparator

Average MV - 2807
ES - 11 fps

When I use a powder like RL19 that is known to be NON temp stable, I do my load development and figure dope in average use conditions for that rifle. This is my mountain rifle used in Montana so I figured dope @ 40 degrees F @ 5300 ft elevation.

My (limited) experience with RL17 shows max pressure around 1.2 grains past initial pressure signs. I try to figure all my max loads on hot days with the bullet seated to the lands.

Went to the range today to test some seating depths.

Shooting a tikka T3 lite 300 wsm
180 gr accubond
66.0 gr RL-17 (max load)
Fully prepped win brass
CCI 250 primers
Coal 2.900 (max mag length)

Shot a three shot clover leaf.
My 300 wsm loves the RL-17 powder

Also shot

175 gr Bergers
64.0 gr IMR 4350
Fully prepped win brass
CCI 250 primers
Coal 3.02 (0.02 off the lands)

And they shot very well but they were way past mag length.

Loaded 185 VLD's, Hornady brass, 215M primers with H4350 for my hunt pal. Shot sub MOA and with some seat depth tweaking went to .538 at 100 yds. Will shoot @ 300 yds next. Savage 16 stainless with bedded thumbhole stock. Not my cup of tea, but he loves it.

I just pick up a 300WSM and I was looking into what powders to try and you brought up about the temp swings for the RL17.How bad is it ?Is it from a major temp change .I have some dupont 7828 I wanted to try also.

I'm not sure if anyone is shooting a Browning xbolt on here but I have one and the load that I have now works really well.

I can't remember the OAL (dad has it)

At 100yds I can cover 3 shot groups with a dime.

I want to play with a load for the 180gr TTSX and the 200gr Accubond to see what I get. I've heard that the IMR7828ssc is pretty good for those bullets.

Does anyone have a load for these?

Do either of you have any loads for the 180gr TTSX or Accubond and a 200gr Accubond using 7828ssc or the other powders you listed? I prefer the IMR powders but I'm willing to try RL. I don't quite understand the tempurature swing issue and why it's okay or not oaky when it comes to reloading. I reload and practice in AZ but I hunt in CO so I may need to pay attention to it!
