Well, I decided on the .300 Win mag. This gun will be primary a hunting rifle. Rifle has a 1-11 twist. Kinda rare ,. I guess a "classic" hunting twist. Gun will be used for Nilgai/Elk.

What bullet weights/Brands will work best with the 1-11 twist. I don't have the rifle yet, it is in transit. So, I haven't been able to measure to the lands for OAL.

I need a "hunting" bullet

I need a "Match" bullet

I have

RL-26
H-4350
H-1000
H4831ssc
IMR 7828ssc
H-4350
Retumbo
RL-22
N-560

Use a stability calculator such as;
This will give a fairly close idea how heavy you can go with an 11 twist. In my 300 Win Mag with the 11 twist, I stay at 180gr or below with bullets such as the Nosler Accubond. Had the best accuracy with H1000.

H1000, Retumbo, Re22 and Re26 should all be good (as are your other powders). Elevation helps in stability but I like using heavy bullets in a 300wm. I shoot a 208 amax for elk with Re22 in a 1/10 twist. I have taken elk out to 725 with it.

H 1000 is all I've ever needed to try in mine

I know it's controversial to some but I would recommend the 185 Berger Hybrid Target. If you're not comfortable with that then I would go with either the 185 VLD or Elite Hunter. My personal experience with Berger and Sierra target bullets has been positive.

I know Berger recommends 1-10 for the 185 Hyb but they also recommend a 1-9 for the 215 and I've got them to shoot in a couple 10twist barrels very well. The other "target" bullet that I've seen dispatch many many deer is the Sierra 190 MatchKing. I have no reason to believe they wouldn't be great for elk.

I don't know where you fall on the target/hunting bullet debate but the Nosler 180 Accubond would also be a good hunting bullet. Probably not so much so for target.

As far as powder, I'd start with the H1000. If you have a chronograph and your ES/SD are a little wild and you're getting flyers jump to the 4831. I'm sure others will work, but I've only used those 2.

Good luck.

Mine likes H 1000 with the 185 juggernaut traveling about 2916fps also I am running a 1/10 twist

The only powder you will even need for the 300 win mag is H1000, as for bullets choice the sky is the limit. If you are on a budget hornady is the way to go. You should be fine shooting most bullets with a 1-11 twist I've shot 200 eldx 208 Amax and 212 eldx and All stabilized out of a 1-11 twist. Somewhere between 75 and 78gr of h1000 with the bullet seated around .050 off the lands should be golden.

I have an 11 twist 300 weatherby. It shoots both the 200 partition and accubond very accurately. Elk and nilgai I would use the partition unless past 300 yards. Then the accubond will work ok. Or just use the partition. Slippery enough and it always works.
