300 Win Mag ELD-X load testing?

Thanks for the education lesson...I 'm not being sarcastic. I really mean that. Looks to me that in order to be effective with the heavier rounds (above 180 grains) in my Tikka T3, .300 win mag I will need to get a new barrel with a 1 in 10" twist. I may need to do that regardless as I've put somewhere around 1,500 rounds through this barrel and I may be seeing some opening up of my shots. I need to investigate the situation a little more. Thank you again for sharing your expertise. It is most appreciated.
I never received it as sarcastic. There are lots of 180's that's fine in 11 and some up to 200. The longer the more twist is required.

Much more to do with length than weight, yes. Heck on the extreme end of things Hawk bullets makes a 250 grain round nose that stabilizes in 10 twist 30 cal rifles while the newer rendition of the 200 grain Sierra matchking requires a 1:9.

Yup, #2231 does require 9 or faster.

The 230 (#2251) requires an 8, but the 240 (#9245) with a 9 minimum. 210 (#9240) takes a 10.

Crazy twist differences in just 10 grains.

This is the same load I just put together for my 300 Win Mag. except I have Hornady brass. I still have to play with seating depth, but so far at .6" at 100 yards with five rounds.
I know this is kinda late to this but, this is a picture from my Baurgra HMR-PRO in 300 WM. Small bore tar, to be shot at 50yd. Reduced for shooting at 50'. Shot at 100 YDS. All on Rt side have 3 holes in black. And rifle had only Less than. 100 rds down range, just breaking in! Better now with much more now. Also using H-1000 @79.5 gr, and 180 gr spbt .LRP. Mixed brass. This is for me a Keeper!

I just started loading for my 300wm. It shot factory sig 190 otm great so iloaded190gr speer with 77.5 of h1000 and it's a tac driver. I have never actually chrono my rounds. A guy at my range let me use his to chrono a 5 shot string and I was floored. My group at 100 was .4. Not bad for a mediocre shooting old man.

Was loading some 212 ELDX for upcoming hunt. Tried three different powders at different weights since the bullet was new to me. All values came from Hornady I came up with 72 grns H4831

Will try this again. I loaded some 212 ELDX for upcoming hunt. Got all my data from Hornada. Loaded 3 different powders at varies weights and went and shot them. One of the loads was 72 gr of H4831 and it shot so well that I just quit and loaded them. Will not saw it is half moa but most holes touch at 100 yards. Shooting 26 in barrel 1-8 twist at 2870 fps.

Thank you so much for your input. I was thinking along the same lines that you recommended. I have shot the 178 ELD-X with good results. I think a faster twist rate will be needed to shoot anything above 190 grs, at the very top end. Thanks for your advice and help. It's most appreciated.
I'm shooting 195 eldm out of my 1/11 twist! 2930 fps

I love my Bergara HMR pro. It's as tac driver. A bit heavy for me now that I'm getting older, but awesome for a of the shelf rifle.

Hmm, saw many posting to this, got an email notification today didn't realize this was an old post.

I am in the early stages of development, on a load for a BAR 300 win mag it is 220 grain ELD-X, the velocity is 2657 fps, SD 5.7 currently at 64.5grn of IMR4831. Initial 3 shot group was 0.6 MOA. COAL was about 3.288-3.295. For whatever reason BAR will group better below 3.300 COAL not sure why.

But the BAR just would not group any more, put my old trouble-shooting scope on it, shot Remington 150grn deer factory box would not group, better than 3-4 MOA. Then tried these 220 grn reloads I had loaded for it. Believe I have a nice starting point. The BAR used to shoot 180grn partitions well, was always below a MOA, but last time out when tried to zero with factory federal blue box 180grn and Winchester 180grn power points, could not group any better than 2-3 MOA. I had just put it in the safe for a while until this range session. Will keep my old scope on it til load development is complete on this one. Probably need to do the whole disassembly and clean and lubricate it well, run the bore scope down the barrel.

I have another load working on for my 300 win mag CA mesa now now the CA precision stock on it. A 200grn ELD-X, load no velocity didn't have my chrono yet initial group about .45 MOA with 68 grns of H4831, COAL running 3.32-3.34. 200grn ELD-X Hornady box ammunition grouped the same with this rifle .4-0.55 MOA. Will run a ladder on this load up to the Max load.

What is the twist rate in your rifle? The 212 ELD-X recommends a rate of 1 in 10" and my rifle, a Tikka T3 with a 24" barrel, has a twist rate of 1 in 11".
1 and 10 barrel twist is a very good twist for any 300 win-mag and is by far most widely used. However you can play with other twist rates but now you are in the big boy league and will have to read Byran Litz's books in detail on twist rates. You are always better off using bullets that are made for the twist rate of your barrel.

My Savage model 111 300 win-Mag long range hunter has a bull barrel and a 1 to 10 twist rate and the Hornaday 212-ELDX and Berger 210 VLD are made for 1 to 10 twist rate.

My Savage 110 Classic 1:10 is running the 220 ELDX over 69.5 gr IMR4831. Getting right at 2800 fps. It is one of my my accurate and consistent rifles. To get 2650 in mine, I would be at 65.5 gr, but my barrel has less then 100 shots. Surprisingly (or not), I found my best COAL at 3.350 (230 otl), which is Hornady book, go figure.

I've always wanted a BAR, but ended up with a BLR (270win). Still a good decision! A BAR in 30-06 would be soooooooooooooooo sweeeeeett!
