I have a browning a bolt 2 in 300 rum. Leupold 2001 model vari-x III 6.5x20x40 . I just got my hornady eld-x 212 grain bullets in and online hornady calls for a 3.900 col. Well that is way too big for my magazine and I can't find an extended mag for it so.......
Is it safe to load these to 3.620 which is my max mag length or have I effectively turned my beautiful bolt gun into a single shot rifle? I have yet to load any but will probably start out with 80.2 grains retumbo In fed. Once fired brass and go from there. I really hate to single load but this gun only sees so much action a year. Limited it's use to days I feel like lookin down an old railroad tram using my Polaris ranger roof as a bench rest.
Any reloading info for these bullets in this caliber would be appreciated. Thanks

You won't have any problems running them at mag length. I have mine loaded at .095 off the lands at an OAL of 3.777".

Thanks for the reply bro. What is your load and what kind of accuracy are you getting with these if you don't mind me asking. Bbl length and all please

Hi Guys

I was wondering what loads you are running for the 212s in the Rum, I am playing with 89.9grs of H1000, WLRMs, Rem brass with a seating depth of 3.9 OAL or 3.168 Ogive. I have clocked them at right around the 2975-2980 range.

Based on Isnipe they just drop subsonic @ 2000 and pack 2050lbs of energy @ 1000. I can get just under 1" groups @200 but my Sako 75 seems to be very sensitive to the speed. The 1/2 muzzle on this thing must whip like mad with this bullet ripping it up.

I have no concerns about this thing being able to drop a moose or elk at 1000-1500yds based on the amount of energy and speed it is retaining even at these ranges, but I am a little concerned about the sensitivity to speed, it makes for a very small window of accuracy.

Just looking for other options to try, I will be using this load for 1000yd target and hunting.

Thanks

I'm in the same boat and am trying to find a load now. I'm thinking of going with retumbo and rl33?

Not sure what the Abolt II mag looks like, but on my Abolt, I slotted the front of the magazine metal that is riveted to the outer box. I found the idea on this site & it allows you to seat longer. I'll look for the original post.

Found it but not sure how to pull in the link. Search "Extended magazine box for Browning A=bolt"
