H4831 and a 130 whatever. My favorite at one time was 56 of IMR 4350 behind ant 130. Every .270, at least 10, shot it well until a Ruger 77 II blew a primer. I had gotten a little complacent. Glad I'm dumber now.

So my nephew loves his 270 and wants me to load some good deer hunting loads for him. I have always shot 25-06 and my 7mm-08 so I am needing some good bullet and powder combinations for a 270. He shoots a Browning A bolt in a 26 inch barrel.

130 grn bullets and rl16 worked great for me.

Other powders that you might consider (and occasionally even available to purchase) are Ramshot Hunter and Alliant Power Pro 4000-MR. Ihave had very good accuracy and velocity with Hornady130 gr Spire Points. Haven't tested them on game, but thousands of deer fall every year to Power Points and Remington CoreLokts, so I believe if put in the right place, they will work fine.

My vote is to start with H4831SC. My two favorite 270win bullets for whitetail are the 140 Accubond and the 150 Fusions.

Annealed and weight sorted brass, FED 210 primer, H4831SC, Hornady 145 ELD-X is a great starting point.

I run 130 soft points with h4895. My 20 inch barreled 98 270 Mauser. Loved the 130 rem core locks so much. I had to talk to Remington about load work up! I settled in with a work up of h4895. Same point of impact as the factory 130 core locks, with a little better group!!!!!

My old stand by .270 pet load for Whitetails. 140 gr Hornady BTSP Interlock #2735. 55.7 gr IMR 4831, gives you 2900 fps. Devastating load, shot it for years. You'll never look back!

Going out this afternoon to test Win brass/RL23/CCI 200/ 140SST. I should be in the 2950 range and that's fast enough for me. Win 130 XPs run right at 3000 out of this 24" barrel.

For a hunting load I always shoot heavy for caliber bullets. So my .270win likes 150gr Nosler partitions and regular Accubonds or 150gr Swift A-frames or Sciroccos. 51.2gr IMR4350 or 51.0gr of H4350. CCI200 primers and federal brass. In my SIG 970SHR bullets are set back .020 off the rifling. 1:10 twist. I'm seeing .5" at 100yds. 1" at 300yds. Achiving 2930fps with this combo.

I've found that from 150yds and in the 130's cause too much meat damage. The 150's do the job just as effectively with much less meat damage. Interestingly if I substitute 130's for 150's in this loading I get a pleasant shooting load that clocks around 3100fps.

This one worked for me. Noser brass weighed. COAL 3.280. Length to ogive 2.719. Barnes TTSX 110. 56 RL17. Win large primer. Velocity 3275+. Shot great from my Tikka. These were a couple of my first shots through the rifle. I had not even adjusted the scope well yet.

I found a load for my .270 Win that shoot great in every .270 that shot it. Mine, my uncle's and my friend's. It consisted of 54 gr of IMR4350 under either a 130 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip or Hornady Interlock and CCI200 primer.
