So my nephew loves his 270 and wants me to load some good deer hunting loads for him. I have always shot 25-06 and my 7mm-08 so I am needing some good bullet and powder combinations for a 270. He shoots a Browning A bolt in a 26 inch barrel.

Lots of powders work well in the old 270 win, I'm assuming that's the one referred to here, depending on what components one can get ahold of these days determines what we shoot rather than shooting what we want, if it were mine for deer I'd want to start with a 130 gr Nosler partition or accubond or a Barnes ttsx, and H4831 starting with about 58 grs and a win work primer, lots of powders work well with this cartridge, win 6.5 staball is a newer powder I haven't tried but the velocity looks to be very promising, I've had excellent results with the one version as well but it burns a little faster so I'd start around 55 grs, imr 7828, re22 and re19 has shot very well in numerous rifles as well as has vit 160 and N560.

There are a ton of options for 270 Win and deer. What components (powder and bullets) do you have?

I've loaded 130's using everything from
IMR-4064 to H4350 to H4831SC to RL26.
145/150's with H4831SC and RL26.

My favorite deer load, because it shoots well and is cheap, is 130 Hornady SPs with 53 gr H4350. This is basically the same as the Hornady American Whitetail factory load.

PM me if you want more info, or need brass/bullets. I've got 1,000s that I realize I'll probably never use.

For a hunting load I always shoot heavy for caliber bullets. So my .270win likes 150gr Nosler partitions and regular Accubonds or 150gr Swift A-frames or Sciroccos. 51.2gr IMR4350 or 51.0gr of H4350. CCI200 primers and federal brass. In my SIG 970SHR bullets are set back .020 off the rifling. 1:10 twist. I'm seeing .5" at 100yds. 1" at 300yds. Achiving 2930fps with this combo.

Lots of great deer loads and components out there. Any 130 grain bullet will work well with the average deer, but I tend to stick with 140's because they don't ruin as much meat on the closer shots. With 130s I'd use H4350 or RL16, with 140s I prefer H4831 and with 150s I prefer RL23 although RL26 is the king of speed with 150s but with less consistent accuracy and muzzle velocity through the year in my three rifles.

All good advise above regarding powder and bullets. All my 270's like 130's. The 130 Nosler Ballistic Tip is my go to. You will sometimes get a little more meat loss but there is usually little to no tracking job.
I too prefer to do my hunting before the shot, not after.
