257 weatherby…. 7828 or retumbo

…..and 110 AB …. Must be bedtime 😉
Hello all! pardon the intrusion please. but I have a 257 barrel that's an 1/7.5 twist on the way. and I'm wondering if there were any loading situations I need to avoid? Thanks for your help and any information you may have .

H1000 is my preferred powder for 257 Bee. If you have both the 7828 and Retumbo, try both. I would lean to Retumbo personally as o think it is more temp stable, but I have 2 rifles that like 7828 alot.

I personally have not used Retumbo, but know alot of people really like it.

Both barrels for my 257 weatherby liked H1000.

The factory barrel was a 1:10 twist and shot the 115gr Berger very well with H1000. The new barrel is 1:7 twist and shoots the 128gr Hammer and 135gr Berger very well with H1000.

RL23 would be good too most likely.

I found acceptable loads with 7828, and N555 with 115gr Ballistic Tips.

Alliant used to have data for 175gr bullets and RL33 in 7mm Rem Mag.
I've never seen/heard of using it in 257 WBY.

Summitsitter: I would suggest the Retumbo over 7828.

I have been using RL-33 in my 257 ever since it came out. It surpasses Retumbo and RL-25 for velocity and is accurate. I have a custom reamer with a shorter throat and a 1 1/2 degree leade. Now on the second SS 3 groove Lilja barrel. First was 28" this one is 27.5". It is a no turn neck and shoots moly coated 115 Bergers @ 3675 fps. It is an awesome flat shooting death ray for coues wt!!!

There have been 9 barrels done with this reamer to date. All are 1 in 10 twist. Several friends own the other rifles. All rifles are using the 115 berger. Most use RL-25, one uses H-1000. To date my rifle and the others have taken 33 coues wt, 8 elk and 2 antelope.

I recently acquired a new 24" takeoff tikka barrel in 25-06 for $75, which I rechambered. It is using IMR 7828 with the 115 Bergers. Accuracy load is 68 gr of SC IMR 7828 115 VLD for 3280 fps. I have a ton of RL-33 and will try it eventually for a comparison to the longer barrel.

Tagging on here. I love the 1954 Roberts I grew up behind so am going to acquire its big brother. Just ordered 50pcs of Weatherby brass and will likely pick up a model 307 within the next two weeks. Would like to try the 101 LRX and 115 Bergers.
