I am getting ready to develop a load for my .223 to hunt coyotes. My rifle is a Remington 788 with a 24" 1:12" barrel so I am probably limited to a 55 gr BT or 60 gr flat base (unless any one has better information). Does anyone have a bullet recommendation or better yet a load?

Thanks in advance.

I'd use a 60mgrain V-max. Byron South was using that bullet a few years ago in his .223 so we tried it in a moderate .22-250 load out of a M788 and it worked great for us. Use what ever powder gives you the best velocity and accuracy. Good fur bullet--very few exits.

some of the bullets i have shot coyotes with out of my 12 twist .223- 50 grain balistic tip, 60 vmax, 60 berger hp, 60 balistic tip, 60 grain hornady hp. powders include n-133, n-133, h-335, blc-2.

How much H335 with the 60s? How do they shoot?

There are many good Yote loads out there; couple of standbys for me is these two.

(1) .223 Rem 65gr Sierra Game King, {25.0grs} H-335 primer Federal 205M vel's 2950 fps. This load usually was used in my AR 1-9 twist with CCI #41 primers, but it works very in a bolt with the 205M primer. Most the 1-12 twists seemed to handle it nicely.

(2) .223 Rem Sierra 60gr HP Varminter, {24.0grs} AA 2015 BR aka: XMR primer Federal; 205M, vel's 3150 fps. This one is a real clock stopper on Yotes, very accurate, shoots nicely from the 1-12 twist barrels rifles.

Good luck.
Remember to back down and work up.
