so like i said, a 223 can't kill a hog, but it's better than nothing. you do what you gotta do. kill, kill, kill!!!

I'm glad you posted the pics. My handle says it all. I use to run dogs on hogs. I've killed more with a knife and catch dog than I can count. Many of dogs hunters will sneak up to baying dogs and put a 22 lr in the head.

So a 223 with a nosler will work.

morning, BRAVO VERY GOOD WORK. I too use a 223 for hogs. I got 3 boxes
of the nosler black bullet with silver plastic tips. can not find these bullets
as of today. very good on deer, hogs and anything a person can eat.

Dj that blonde boar is pretty impressive. I may have killed his littermate a few weeks ago with a very similar rifle.

As long as you're doing head/neck shots the .223 is more than adequate out to 300-400yds but you definitely have to put it in the right place.

I've killed a truck load with the .204 Ruger shooting 32 and 36gr factory loads as well but it definitely requires some precision shooting to do the job humanely.

If I'm taking them one at a time instead of trying to wipe out a herd the .260 Rem is my preferred way to go.

They run away because you are so ugly! Even dead smelly boars think you are ugly and stick. Either that or they don't want to be seen riding around in that feminin truck you have.

Hogs are very Tough animals 223 is too light J.E customs can work out a way to reduce recoil on your other rifles.

DJ jones Great photos all this hogs run off quite a shame wildrose seems to be adamant on 223 killing a hog i never tried a 223 on a hog but i know for sure they are some stubborn animal

I'm adamant in the fact it can be done but it requires precision shooting because I've killed several truck loads of them with one.

It isn't what I recommend however in general. My preference is to go with at least something along the lines of the .260 Rem at a minimum because you then have a much wider choice of shot selection and room for error.

I shot a good sized boar last night, somewhere between 350-400lbs with the .300 Rum. He was walking towards me and I settled on a head shot. I'm shooting the Peregrine VLR prototype in 183gr at around 3,200fps so it's smoking.

Just as I squeeze the round off he angles slightly so instead of a head shot it enters at about the point of the shoulder through the shield, shoulder, into the chest cavity and turns everything in his chest cavity to jello.

He hits the ground immediately but after a few seconds gets off and runs another hundred yards or so before giving up the ghost. Indeed they are very tough animals.

Had I made that same shot with the .223 he'd have just run off mad. Had I done so with the .260 or .264 or STW's, I'd have had to maybe go a bit further to recover him but he'd have been just as dead.

The .204 and .223 definitely will do the job but the shots have to be absolutely precise.

The .223 is a bit light for hogs.. But what really counts is where you hit them. If you could get a head shot, you stand a greater chance or you just watch your trophy run off
