I just reloaded 5 rounds at a c.o.l of 2.289 thats a .001 Jam in my gun. Everything loads fine but the load is .029 over my max c.o.l of 2.260. Any thoughts?
Thanks I started my load at 25.1 g of h4895!There is no problem loading it longer than standard. My 204 Ruger load with 39sbk's in 2.375".
It's a single shot Savage so I don't have to worry about feeding from a mag. That would be your only concern.
With the bullet jammed you will also have higher pressures, so work up slowly to max.
I went to the range today and shot my 40 g Hornadys best group was .460 with 25.6 g of h 4895 and col of 2.237. Thats out of a stock ruger no. 1. The loades seated at 2.288 didn't shoot for crap! You should find an accurate load pretty soon. I'm using 27.0 H4895 @2.375. It's still a ways from the lands. My rifle is 2.45" to the lands with the 39 sbk's.
It is shooting .275" 5 shot groups and I was 3 for 4 at 400yds on prairie dogs this year. T
Those sierras shoot great in my rifle. The Hornady 40's wouldn't shoot at all.
It seems that one or the other will work. Just have to find which one.
I wouldn't waste alot of time and effort on one. I spent alot of time trying to get the 40 Hornady's to shoot since they shot well in my buddy's rifle.
I went to the 39sbks and they shot well right away.
It was only a 3 shot group, when i shot 5 it starts to string the shots a little. That is a nice group. Was it 5 shots? I would try to tweak it a little and see how the groups change. I am always tinkering with my loads until I can put 5 shots in .3 . Of course I have spent alot of time and money doing it. Maybe wasted a bit of barrel life too. But I had fun and learned alot.
