Took my son a month or so ago to our flagship Bass Pro in Memphis to get him out of house. Saw a Sako A7 Big Game rifle in 270 win on clearance in the Beretta boutique. Think was 569.00. I did not want it because it was a 270 Win. (boring) and I have drank the Kool-Aid on custom rifles. This said, it had to be purchased. I briefly tried to trade it for a scope and then decided to give it to a close friend. Bought a Leupold vx3i 4.5-14 x40 scope on clearance and some Warne rings. Friend does not reload. Also does not really care about tiny groups. For no practical reason, I really care about tiny groups. Keeping this project simple, I Purchased some Hornady brass, and inexpensive RCBS dies. Decided to first try Barnes TTSX because the magazine length precluded getting close to the lands with most if not all bullets. Knew that the Barnes liked to jump. My first outing with the rifle produced .75-2" groups as I worked up the load. I think the longest jump in round 1 was .06". Used H4350. Round 2 was at book max and produced a sub .5" group at longest jump of around .100". I was thrilled and almost quit declaring a major victory. For grins today I shot 3 groups with jumps out to .165". .150" jump produced a 3 shot group under .25". Photo attached. Reason for this long post is that I am now rethinking my hunting rifle and cartridge snobbery. I am thrilled to give this rifle and worked up load to my friend. This said, any hunting that I do could be brilliantly accomplished with this 1000 dollar combo. The 270 Win. obviously can be super accurate out of a factory hunting rifle. The Leupold Vx3i is a very nice scope. Lesson learned today.

Thanks for sharing your findings. I'm always striving to keep the bullet close to the lands but as you've shown it may like to jump

I had my son's Tikka 7mm-08 shooting around .5-.65" with 120 TTSX at .050". Now am going to jump the heck out of them and see what we get!
