    New Zealand Elk

    Pen job. We dont have any pure Elk left in the wild. We have only ever had a small area with free range/wild elk and that has been contaminated with Red deer for a long time now. Best ones are 50/50 or 60/40 Elk/Red deer cross. Even most of the high fenced Elk has some Red blood in them and...

    Stag Hunting - weighing my options

    You have to understand those are not free range sizes, but 'estate' sizes. A 300"SCI Free range Stag is MASSIVE, and most areas will not produce those heads. 250-270 SCI is a very good free range head in most areas. SCI medal category change over time as they are averaged out over the book. What...

    June 2017 New Zealand Hunt

    As as has been said above I think ol Dr Bob has been a bit fooled on this hunt. Unfortunately this happens alot with foreign hunters in NZ. No fault of his, only the misleading info provided by the guides/outfitters. There is no way that stag is a 'free range' animal. try and enter it in the...

    Wild Boar in day ??

    no reason why you cant hunt them in the day. I have only ever hunted wild pigs in the day(in NZ so maybe a little different) early morning and late evening they will be feeding. in the day the will usually be bedded up in creek/stream system. you can just stalk through creek beds and find...

    DIY Targets?

    Hey guys Im new to archery(got my bow about 2 months ago) and cant afford a fancy target to shoot at. I have been using old wheat sacks filled with foam and woolen blankets which works really well for field tips. Any one else using DIY target?

    ++++Silencer/Suppresor++++ ????????

    All the suppressors I have used are NZ made and reduce recoil by 30-50% easily. A 7mm rem mag is like a .223 to shoot. they are great things.

    Medical Considerations in the Backcountry

    Good article. The PLBs are definitely worth the money. Alot of areas can 2-3 days walk from the road end and if you fall/slip a broken leg/ankle wont be much fun. A PLB can get a chopper on its way in no time(here in NZ anyway). Have heard of guys here miss using PLBs which really ****es me...
