    Rate of Twist for 308win

For target shooting I got 175grain SMKs to pattern between .7-.3" depending on me. For hunting I got 168 Barnes XXX to park at about .5" The 180grain stuff I have yet to get to work out of my 1:12 Rem700P. Haven't tried any of the smaller stuff as I've gotten these to work really well.

    New scope tracking problems

I'm pretty new to this stuff so I could be wrong, but could it be everything is functioning as should be? If its shooting 1" groups, and he moves it over 1" isn't it possible the second shot would hit in the same spot because it has moved within the margin of error? Only advice I would give...

What kind of accuracy are you getting with hunting loads

sorry - yep .308 out of a 26" rem700P. I know I won't be shooting at an animal 10 times. I just use 10 to measure consistency. I figure if its a good load it should be able to repeat itself at least 10 times to start. Ultimately I'll end up shooting 3 groups of 10 to ensure repeatability. I'll...

What kind of accuracy are you getting with hunting loads

The quick question: What sort of accuracy do you get out of your big game (moose) hunting loads? The longer version: I've been trying to develop a moose load for the fall. So far I've tried 180grains in Barnes TSX and Nosler Partition fueled by various powders. The best group (10 shots) I've...

    308 loads

44.5 grains of varget seated .020 off the lands puts 175grain SMK into .5 MOA out of my 1/12 twist rem.

Anyone running 180gr Nosler Partition and IMR4320

If so, how much powder are you running? I had the parts lying around so I thought I'd work up a load and see if anything catches. I went to the Nosler site where they suggested throws of 40, 42 and 44 grains with 44 being the most accurate. After I load up I check my Lyman 48 manual and it lists...

    .308 highpressure help!!

Were they trimmed up? Maybe jamming in the lands and boosting pressure on those particular loads? 44grains of varget should be ok and sounds like it has shot fine for you up to this point. Weird.

Substitute for H4895 for Barnes Triple X?

Ok, I watched the slow motion capture of the Barnes Triple X once too often and thought I'd see if my rifle likes it. To be used in the fall for moose. So I bought a box of 180 grain in .308. The Barnes online manual suggests H4895 powder (42grains producing 2566fps max) as optimal and...

    Help interpret first chrony data

Thought I would provide an update: Looking at the numbers and the insight provided by this board and others I changed some things: a) gave my rifle a really good copper cleaning which it hadn't had in a few rounds. b) choronographed earlier in the day with more light and total overcast. c) got a...

    Help interpret first chrony data

What would you suggest? It's going through a 26" barrel with 1/12 twist. I thought for sure Varget would work though as it seems very popular. But am open to suggestions.

    Help interpret first chrony data

KQguy - I did do the .3 increment workup initially to get into this ballpark as I got the best hits at 44.4 and 44.7. Forester - The brass is once fired federal that was factory loaded. I tumble cleaned, cleaned primer pocket, uniformed and deburred flashhole, trimmed to manual suggestion...

    Help interpret first chrony data

Hey all, So I bought a chronograph and ran my latest reloads through it. Can you help me interpret the data? I fired three loads of Varget at 44.4g, 44.5g, and 44.6g (each with federal brass, cci primers & 175g Sierra MatchKing in .308). I'm reloading with off the shelf Lyman and RCBS...

Pick a moose bullet for reload

Hey all, So I'm really getting into this reloading thing. I'm pretty close to nailing down my target round where I'm using 175g Sierra Matchkings (its getting somewhere between .5 and .7 MOA). My attention is now turning to my fall Moose hunt and developing a load for that. Any practical use...
