180 SMK in 7mm 9.25 twist? what to do?

Thanks Niles, It is a little confusing because Sierra calls for a 1/8 and Berger calls for a 1/9, and the SMK's are a little shorter and have higher stability than the Bergers, 1.43 vs. 1.31 w/1/9.25 barrel

180 SMK in 7mm 9.25 twist? what to do?

I'm not going to shoot any if they're no good at 9.25, which is what I'm trying to find out.

180 SMK in 7mm 9.25 twist? what to do?

I bought 1100 SMK's for my 7mm rem with the 26", 9.25 barrel. Then I read Sierra's warning about "8 twist or faster". I ran this bullet through the Miller twist rule calc. and can get it to the 1.5 "comfortable zone" at 2800fps, 70 deg temp @500ft elev. but that means max loads. I also have...

    powder volumes

@ Tom Thanks Tom, I am very new to this but I have everything except powder and primers, and while trying to choose a powder for my first batch of rounds I noticed the spread in powder weights. In reading through various forums I also noticed that re-barreling seems to be a common practice...

    powder volumes

Thanks for the input guys, @Mikecr Thanks for the info, much better than the burn rate charts. looking at your charts, are they saying you will get almost twice the number of accurate shots from your barrel with the Hybrid 100v over the H4831? I was going to buy the H4831 but now I may reconsider

    powder volumes

When you choose a powder, do you take case fill into acct.? I would like to know if there is an advantage/disadvantage to filling up the case vs. having some space behind the bullet. for example is it worth 5.5grs. just to get 20fps? I am most interested in how it affects barrel life. 180 GR...

    Bases

So a NF scope can handle 600 inches of bullet drop at 1200yds? 1moa@1200yds = 12 inches x 50 moa =600in? so as long as you have a caliber that drops less than 600 inches @1200yds. you are good to go with a flat base? I have a HDMR and it has 34.4 mils of total elevation, so at 1000yds this...

    Bases

I am in the same boat as you, but from what i have been able to glean from the various sites is that you need a 20 MOA base if you want to shoot long range, 600-800yds. and more, because most scopes run out of elevation before you see the target. I think you need to get the elevation specs for...

    choosing a scope ring height

Hello all, just getting into the sport, I have bought a 7mm Sendero, a Bushell HDMR scope and a NF 20MOA base, but I'm having a hard time locating the rings. I have been trying to pick up a pair of Seekins 0.92's but everyone is sold out, I did find a pair in 1", will .08" make much of a...
