what powder are you guys using for 300wm for long range?

H1000 .5" Groups, holds MOA or less out to 1400yds with a 208 Amax in 300WM & 300RUM am looking at 215 & 230 Berger Hybrids, only bullets that might be better.

I have read and it seems most everyone likes h1000 and ratumbo. But can't find it at the gun stores yet. So looking for other good options. Few people talk about the 4350 also......might have to look for that. Some talk about r22 I think it is..... Anyone use that?

I have tried RL25, RL22, IMR4831, H4831, IMR4350, H4350 and RL19. All produced sub MOA. Presently using H1000 because I got best accuracy EVER with this powder (79.0gn), 190gn SMK and CCI250's. Shot sub 1/4" at 100yds. YMMV. JohnnyK.

H1000 is a favorite. Retumbo is a bit slow, but it works for long barrels and heavy bullets.

H4831SC works surprisingly well for bullet weights up to the 215 Berger. If you can find a bottle it might be worth a try.

Ramshot Magnum and IMR 7828 are both great powders too. From what I've seen they are both great for velocity and temp stability.

RL22 is also worth a try. You may find that it isn't nearly as temperamental as many people would have you believe.

Look for another thread I started about powder for 300 mag. I am in the same boat. H1000 is not that good in my gun. Gonna try others

I'm in the same situation. Just got a Milspec Remington 700. I'm planning on starting loadwork with H1000 and 210 VLD's. We just got 30" of snow so it might take a while to get going.

I'm another one that doesn't get the best results with H-1000... Good, but not the best in my rifle.

In my rifle, which started life as a Winchester M70 Laredo, now sports a 26" Lilja, Jewell trigger, H-S precision stock, custom trued action and optics base - my two pets loads use;

LR Target load:
190gr. Sierra MK,
Hornady brass,
Fed LR Mag
AA-4350 (for some reason, groups better for me than H-4350 or IMR-4350)
Not going to list charge, as it's above published max.
3160 FPS - 0.4 MOA

LR Hunting load:
180 Barnes T-TSX
Hornady brass,
Fed LR Mag
RL-22
3305 FPS - 0.65 MOA

I am currently experimenting with H-4831 SC and IMR-7828. RL-25 was not good at all in my rifle

I use Re22 and 208 Amax. I haven't noticed much of a velocity difference in the heat/cold with Re22, just a little bit like 20fps. I also use Re22 for my .260 loads and love it. It seems very consistent to me.

I have tried alot of different powders in my 300wm. Started with H4831sc, got good result with 200gr accubonds.

Kept on tinkering with the load tried H1000. It worked well, but could not get the consistancy that I did with the H4831sc.

So for me, if it aint broke.......

H4350, and 180g Hornady Interbonds....About to start looking into some harder bullets.

Caleb,
How many grains of 4350 are you using? Also what primers? Thanks, Mugs

67.5g....I worked it up, but velocities will vary with the rifle. I imagine it's close to 3000fps. I have always used Winchester large magnum primers and usually Remington brass. it is a subMOA load from my model 70, at about 3" at 350 yards. The load doesn't work so well in a friends Abolt.
