I have a winchester model 70 westerner. I need to totally remove the front sight and rail from the barrel. I removed the front post dove tail and there is no screw below it. How do I remove the rail from the barrel???

That front sight ramp will either be soldered to the barrel or it will be forged as part of the barrel. I believe yours will be soldered but I am not sure. If you have an original pre 64 Westerner, you should not remove the sight ramp.

+1

It is soldered and if you are going to keep the barrel I would not risk messing it up.

Other than looks, it doesn't affect the scope (You can't see it in the scope).

Just an opinion.
